WATCH : As we meet the local couple running the South Liverpool pub “The Aigburth Arms”
Sefton Park is always an amazing place to be and there’s one pub that’s perfectly placed when you’re out for a walk and making the most of all that gorgeous green space.
The Aigburth Arms on Victoria Road is only a few minutes from the lake which means it couldn’t be handier for a drink before or after a day out – and it’s got a huge sunny beer garden too!
Managers Andy and Louise are keen to bring a proper community pub feel to the place to make sure everyone feels welcome, whether it’s families, couples or football teams wanting a well-earned pint after a match.
The couple took over running the Aigburth Arms in March 2020 just after it was given a major refurbishment, inside and outdoors, by owners Blind Tiger Inns.
“We’ve both been in the industry for a long time, I started as a glass collector when I was 15 and Louise has worked in catering since she was 18. We had a break for a few years when our kids were little but then came back because it’s what we both love doing.
“We’ve never run a pub in this part of the city before but when we saw it we were just attracted to what the company had done with the refurbishment and by the location. To be this close to Sefton Park, Otterspool and Lark Lane is fantastic and we’re really enjoying being here.”
One of the biggest new attractions at the Aigburth Arms, especially when the weather’s nice, is its beer garden which can seat around 200.
“We’ve got the main beer garden at the front and also a smaller outside seating area,” says Andy. “It’s a lovely space to sit and chill out, and it’s a fabulous little sun trap when the sun’s out.
“It’s also a great place to have some of the events and family fun days we like to put on.
“Over Easter we had a petting zoo and breakfast with Easter Bunny and have some exciting plans for over the Jubilee Bank Holiday, we’ll have live entertainment on all weekend so there’s plenty going on for kids as well as adults.”
A revamped menu, featuring freshly-made pizzas, burgers, sharing platters, mains and small plates, and regular drinks offers including prosecco and house wine for ÂŁ10.95 before 7pm, are already proving a hit.
And it’s become a popular venue for celebrations like birthdays and baby showers too, thanks to a function room which can hold around 35 seated and 70 standing.Â
Andy says he and Louise are looking forward to a busy, fun 2022.Â
“We’ve got a fantastic team working with us and supporting us, and we’ve been getting excellent feedback. Seeing people leave happy at the end of the night is what it’s all about.”
