Watch Maghull Wind Orchestra perform ‘All You Need Is Love’ supporting the NHS

15/05/2020

Following the huge success of Maghull Wind Orchestra’s first virtual piece “You’ll Never Walk Alone” a new, virtual version of “All you need is love”, in honour of the NHS and to encourage viewers to “be kind” has been released by the community band.

Over 50 musicians have recorded their individual parts of the iconic Beatles song arranged by music teacher and band trombonist Adam Dutch before another of the band’s trombonists Christopher Horswood edited all of the music and video together. The release coincided with the 8pm clap for carers on Thursday evening, remembering all NHS staff and other key workers.

Adam said: “Following on from the amazing success of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” I had discussions with a number of band members about another collaborative project. After talking with the band’s chair – Kate Warriner, we struck upon the idea of “All You Need is Love.” The song is obviously another iconic Liverpudlian anthem, but also celebrates those values which are most important in our current climate – love and support of each other and our communities.”

Speaking of the success of the last piece musical director of Maghull Wind Orchestra, Phil Shotton added: “I thought the whole thing was brilliant, from the band members who took part to our trombonist Chris Horswood who put it together, to the literally thousands of people who have viewed the video on MWO’s YouTube channel.

“We set off with the aim of keeping our musicians occupied and also paying tribute to the NHS, and we ended up with a unique piece of music which was enjoyed by hundreds of thousands watching Northwest Tonight! It just shows that it takes more than a lockdown to silence Maghull Wind Orchestra!”
