WATCH: This is why we should be talking about Male Body Image
7 years ago

Body image is a big thing for a lot of people, but most of the emphasis tends to focus around women and girls…
Loads of guys suffer from this too!
There is still a stigma surrounding mental health, in both men and women, but more so in men who generally do not like to talk about their feelings openly. This has to stop.
Whilst girls are bombarded with images in magazines and on TV depicting women as petite with curves in the right places; men are faced with similar expectations when Hollywood has its Brad Pitts, Orlando Blooms and Channing Tatums plastered all over every form of media.
Jane Bellis, of Art & Soul Tribe and Alternate Fashion Fest, decided to take a stand; after getting a bunch of women together in 2016 to do a photoshoot empowering the female body in all its different and glorious forms, she wanted to do the same for men.
“Not everyone is a Ken doll, every body is beautiful. But it can be difficult to get guys to come out and talk about their feelings, whether it’s about their bodies or their feelings. We wanted to try and combat that with a powerful image that combats this stigma including different body types – big, small, tattoos, piercings, young, old. Anything that can help raise awareness.”
