Dainty sandwiches, cream filled scones, and pots of piping hot tea!…
Thereâs nothing like an afternoon tea when it comes to treating yourself or showing someone you love them, and this delightfully elegant English speciality â being celebrated this week in Afternoon Tea Week â doesnât get much better in the city than the one served at the new Municipal Hotel Liverpool.
For starters, before you even get a glance of the tiered stand stacked with traditional tea fayre, and your beautifully-dressed table, thereâs a fabulous feast for the eyes.
Walking into the Grade II-listed former municipal building which has been lovingly and lavishly renovated to create the luxury Dale Street Venue, youâre greeted by the stunning Palm Court Bar, with its ornate decorations and awe-inspiring towering palm trees.
So thereâs a grand entrance awaiting you before you even catch sight of the sophisticated Botanic Tearoom, a sumptuous space where the main event take place and tea sommeliers work to create the most memorable experience in a floral haven in the heart of Liverpool.
Nick Harrison, Director of Food & Beverage at The Municipal Hotel Liverpool, says: âAfternoon tea is one of the most luxurious ways of escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
âAt Botanic Tearoom at The Municipal, guests can press pause on the outside world and spend quality time enjoying great food and drinks with someone special.
âEverything is freshly baked in-house, and our team of tea sommeliers are on hand to ensure our wide selection of fine teas are brewed to perfection.â
Presented on a golden stand with china plates, The Municipalâs spectacular afternoon tea features a delicious mouth-watering menu of sweet and savoury goodies which includes a selection of sandwiches including ham and mustard, egg and watercress, cheddar and pickle, and smoked salmon and mayonnaise.
Theyâre accompanied by a collection of homemade treats, like a crisp yet chewy macaron or a cream filled Victoria sponge and, it goes without saying, scones â you can choose from plain or fruit â with Tipton strawberry jam and clotted cream.
The menu changes regularly with tastes to reflect the changing seasons.
All Botanic Tearoomâs scented teas are naturally fragranced with fresh flowers or natural oils to create vivid aromas and timed to perfection using traditional hourglass timers. You can enjoy unlimited offerings of Municipalâs Jing Tea or Piacetto coffee, and select from a menu of amazing tea-inspired cocktails, and sparkling wines.
Afternoon tea runs from 12-6pm at The Municipal Liverpool, with last bookings at 5pm, and prices starting from ÂŁ33 per person midweek (if you really want to push the boat out â and why wouldnât you when youâre in such a fabulous location â for ÂŁ39 you can add a glass of the hotelâs Municipal champagne which will add even more fizz to an already bubbly occasion).
As tasty treats go, this is right there at the top.
