Water Polo comes to Liverpool Royal Albert Dock this week
6 years ago
On Saturday 22nd June the MANUP! Water Polo Festival takes place at Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock.
12 Senior Men’s and Women’s Teams from around the region and the UK, will compete in non-stop, fast-paced, back to back water polo games at Dukes Dock on Gower Street in the shadow of the Liverpool Eye.
Liverpools Bridgefield Water Polo Club and City of Liverpool Water Polo Club will take on local competitors Tyldesley, City of Chester and Warrington, as well as visiting water polo teams from City of Birmingham and Castleford and University Teams from Oxford, Loughborough and Durham.
Water polo has never been played at Albert Dock before, and despite the sport having its origins in 19th century British canals and rivers its rare to see the sport being played outdoors in the UK now, unlike in Europe where it is popular.
Manup! Festival organisers are keen to bring the sport to a wider audience, showcasing it to the public at popular and vibrant outdoor locations, so spectators are more than welcome to come along and see the sport being played in one of Liverpools most iconic destinations.
This event follows the festivals inaugural event in August 2018 at Media City, Salford Quays and their first Junior event held last month at Nantwich Outdoor Pool.
Manup! Festival will return to Media City, Salford Quays on 3rd August for the end of season event.
