Carla Marie Williams, is a multi-platinum British song writer and has worked with everyone from Britney to Beyonce. Today she has ben in Liverpool giving musicians a special songwriting masterclass as part of the RISE programme – a series of events celebrating inspirational women. Watch above as we sent LIMF Academy upcoming singer, songwriter, KYAMI along to meet Carla for some inspiration herself.
The two-time Grammy nominated artist visited Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts to give an intimate, free masterclass on the secrets behind writing a hit song. Aimed at aspiring young females, the session covered lyrics, concepts, melody writing and improvisation as well as encouraging the youngsters to make an impact in a male-dominated industry.
She spoke about her experience of working on Beyoncé’s critically revered Lemonade as well as other global hits such as Naughty Boy’s Runnin and Britney Spear’s Private Show.
The full RISE programme was launched last week to mark International Women’s Day
Carla said: “I’m really excited to be coming to Liverpool. I’ve heard there a lot of amazing female artists there and I can’t wait to work with them all – it’s really important for myself and Girls I Rate that we empower and engage with the future female creatives.”
Deputy Mayor and cabinet member for culture, tourism and events, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “The RISE season is all about paying homage to inspirational women around the world and at the same time educating and empowering people.
“Carla is the perfect embodiment of a female at the top of her game in what is a notoriously male-dominated industry. It will undoubtedly be a hugely popular event as Carla shares some of her trade secrets, and I’m sure she’ll be impressed by the raw talent that is so abundant in this city.”
