Western Approaches HQ Museum to offer free entry to kids under 16
2 years ago

Starting 1st December 2021, Western Approaches HQ Museum, a secret bunker hidden beneath the streets of Liverpool, is introducing free entry for children under the age of sixteen.
The decision was made not only to help support families with rising costs, but to ensure that history remains easily accessible, especially to younger generations.
The aim of Western Approaches HQ is to share the information and honour the memory of the men and women who served during the Second World War.
The attraction was once a top secret combined forces headquarters that people once had to sign the official secrets act to enter. Now, it is a museum left exactly how it would have been during the Second World War. The museum also includes a recreated war-torn street scene with 1940s shops to explore, and even a real unexploded bomb.
A visit to the museum often surprises families and takes approx. 1 hour to explore, but over the Christmas period there are also festive activities and additional things to see and do.
At Western Approaches HQ Museum one of our core aims is education and ensuring history is accessible to all, especially the younger generations. By removing fees for under 16’s we hope to further this whilst also helping to ease the increasing financial burdens family face today.
Dave Roberts, Operations Manager of Western Approaches HQ, said:
“It’s important to make sure that the achievements and sacrifices of the wartime generation can be passed on to younger generations, so with free tickets for under sixteens we’re helping to keep the memory of these people and the crucial work that they did alive and relevant.”
All events that are free with a valid entry ticket will also be included in the free entry, including the Christmas events running through the month of December; there will be a festive concert and sing along throughout the day on Saturday 4th December from local performer Hattie Bee, and a day of festive talks, demonstrations and workshops on Saturday 11th December with award winning living history group V for Victory.
The offer is available on tickets purchased directly from the museum, either in person upon entry or directly through the Western Approaches HQ website.
Places do not have to be reserved in advance.
