What’s on this weekend in Liverpool? (8-10 October 2021)

Just when we were all getting layered up ready for autumn, it’s weirdly warm again so in case it goes as quickly as it came, better get out and enjoy it.

Here are 15 things that are happening in and around Liverpool this weekend …

The Battle of Liverpool – it’s all about Smith vs Fowler at the M&S Bank Arena

Fight fans won’t need telling twice that there’s a huge one on this Saturday with the clash of the Scousers. Former WBO light-middleweight champion Liam Smith takes on Rio 2016 Olympian Anthony Fowler at the Arena in a massive all-Liverpool fight. There’s a full under card, with Smith vs Fowler expected around 10pm.

Oktoberfest at PINS Social Club

October means Oktoberfest, and it’s at PINS this weekend until October 24. Along with all the usual bowling, shuffleboard and pool, up on the roof there’ll be Bavarian stein sloshing, bench dancing and bratwursts to get you in the mood. Don’t worry about the weather, it’s all under the retractable roof.

The perfect night out at Liverpool’s newest cocktail bar, Tres

If you’re up for a night of dancing and cocktails then try out new bar Tres in the Cavern Quarter. In Temple Court, it’s got a stylish art deco look, great DJs including the legendary Dave Graham and a fabulous cocktail menu of classics and something more unusual if you fancy being adventurous.

Grease, canapes and bottomless prosecco at Entry Bar 

It might be too late for some Summer Lovin’ but it’s definitely a good time to see Sandy and Danny getting together in sing-a-long 50s classic Grease. Go along to Entry Bar on Seel Street on Sunday afternoon, from 12.30 to 4pm for a screening plus canapes and bottomless fizz as well as live music from the film.

Cocktails and tunes at Liberte

Cocktails are always a good idea, but especially when there’s a little bit of bonus sunshine to be had and Liberte, with its incredible waterfront views, is a top venue for going out out. Saturdays are a big one for DJs with music from Kieran Gilfoyle and Andy Mac so it’s perfect for a date night or with mates.

Chase and Status play Liverpool 

Chase and Status are back on Saturday with a DJ set at Blackstone Street Warehouse by Bramley Moore Dock. There’s loads of support including Andy C, Hybrid Minds and Holy Goof – pre-sale tickets have all sold, but there’s still limited general release.

BlackFest Celebration at the Phil

Celebrating the end of BlackFest, and marking Black History Month, the Phil hosts a night of live performance featuring Wavertree Community Gospel Choir, singer Kanga Koffi who uses his recordings to support the Whitechapel Centre in Liverpool, activist, poet and performer Curtis Watt, and local rapper/singer-songwriter Digitz.

Don’t Stop Me Now at Camp and Furnace

If you love a bit of Freddie, then get ready for a night of all things Queen at Camp and Furnace this Saturday because they’ve got back-to-back hits performed live with Don’t Stop Me Now – the ultimate tribute to Queen. It’s standing, doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 9pm.

Liverpool Digital Music Festival takes over St Barnabas

St Barnabas Church on the corner of Penny Lane and Allerton Road is the venue for Liverpool Digital Musical Festival this weekend, in support of Merseyside Youth Association. No tickets needed, you can just turn up and listen to brilliant live acts or watch online via the website. Artists are on Friday evening and all day/evening Saturday.

Last chance to see Our Lady of Blundellsands or Beauty and the Beast

It’s great to have live theatre back on in the city again, and these two very different shows have been going down a storm with audiences. This weekend is your last chance to catch Jonathan Harvey’s funny and moving Our Lady of Blundellsands with Josie Lawrence at the Everyman and there’s one more week of the magical Beauty and the Beast at the Empire.

Lennon’s Song for Kindness at the Cavern

The Liverpool Song for Kindness international song contest was launched to mark what would have been John Lennon’s 80th birthday year. A collaboration between global charity tuff.earth, the city council, The Cavern Club, LIPA and Strawberry Field, the top 3 and winner will be announced this Saturday, with a livestream via Facebook going around the world from 3pm UK time.

Everyone loves their pies but not everyone knows the amazing story behind Homebaked in Anfield. Homebaked the Musical at the Royal Court tells how the community created something fabulous in what’s got to be one of the most feelgood theatre shows you’ll see. There’s music, laughs and lots of pastry obviously.

Delve into the history of Strawberry Field

Even Beatles diehards who know their Fab Four facts will be interested to find out more at Strawberry Field in Woolton which now has a new visitor exhibition. Go behind the famous red gates and learn about the history of the site including stories from the former children’s home and how Lennon came to write the famous song.

The Baltic specialises in little tucked away places that are fabulous for food or just a coffee while you’re having a wander round.
