Where you can take your empty Christmas chocolate tubs to raise thousands for Macmillan
1 day ago
Pubs across Liverpool are once again urging people to donate their empty Christmas chocolate tubs to help raise thousands of pounds for charity.
Since it began five years ago, Greene King pubs’ Tub2Pub campaign has collected a total of 475,348 empty containers, helping to raise an incredible £35,247 for Macmillan Cancer Support which provides emotional, medical and practical help to people living with cancer across the UK.
The tubs get sent to a plastic recycling company with some being turned into items like picnic benches, and others generating money that goes directly to Macmillan.
It means all those Heroes, Quality Street, Celebrations and Roses containers that might just go to landfill can instead be put towards a great cause.
Jo Gillespie, Merseyside area manager for Greene King said:
“Tub2Pub is back and we want people to take their clean and empty tubs to their local Greene King pub.
“We can reduce waste, start the new year in a more sustainable way – and boost funding for Macmillan Cancer Support. It’s a win-win situation.”
Vance Fairman-Smith, Greene King’s group supply chain director, added:
“We know from previous years that the Tub2Pub is an easy way for people to reduce their environmental impact of festive waste.
“Our aim is to divert thousands more tubs from landfill or incineration, and we hope to see an even more positive response from communities across the UK this year.
“The message is simple: don’t let plastic tubs gather dust for another year or end up in the wrong bin. Take them to your local Greene King pub and we’ll do the hard work for you.”
