Why the Carpenters Group is Liverpool BID Company’s Business of the Month for September
2 hours ago

Carpenters Group is one of the leading insurance and legal service providers in the UK and has proudly called Merseyside home for more than 31 years.
Over the decades, the team has grown and now boasts around 1500 employees across seven offices throughout the UK – including Birkenhead and Liverpool.
And, while Carpenters Group is the company name, it is ‘our people,’ says owner and director Donna Scully, ‘who make us who we are.’
Donna says: “I believe in investing in and looking after our people.
“If we keep our people happy, then in turn, they keep the customers and clients happy.”
And now, setting the business apart is Liverpool BID Company’s decision to award Carpenters Group the title of Business of the Month for September, and here’s why…
Merseyside matters
A deep connection to Liverpool is reflected in Carpenters Group’s commitment to hiring locally, fostering a supportive workplace culture, and actively engaging with the community.
Supporting local charities
Carpenters Group is proudly involved with a host of local charities including:
* The Inclusive Hub in Bootle which supports thousands of people living with additional needs, such as Down’s syndrome; wheelchair users, and mental, physical, hearing and visual impairment
* Hive Youth Centre in Birkenhead – a state-of-the-art space dedicated to offering Wirral’s young people opportunities and experiences
* Fishing the Mind CIC aimed at helping people struggling with mental health issues
* Fans Supporting Foodbanks, a joint initiative between Liverpool and Everton supporters to tackle food poverty
* Zoe’s Place (now Little Lights), the hospice which supports babies and young children who have complex illnesses or disabilities from birth to age five

Others are Charles Thompson Mission; Sean’s Place; L6 Community Association; Alder Hey Children’s Hospital; Whizz Kidz; NBIL, and Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.
This summer, Carpenters Group supported Liverpool’s Pride with a strong presence and a donation to organisers Sahir House to support its vital work in the LGBTQ+ community.
CEO Donna Richards says:
“We proudly support and celebrate Pride because inclusion is at the heart of who we are. As someone with a rainbow family, I know personally how vital it is that everyone feels seen, valued, and supported – both in life and at work. We will always stand on the side of inclusion and kindness.”
Giving back
Carpenters Group has a Matched Giving programme, helping to double charitable amounts raised by colleagues, and provides everyone with two paid volunteer days every year.
Championing women in law and insurance
With both a female Owner/Director and female CEO, and many women in leadership roles, its commitment to gender representation is strong. In a recent Women in Law supplement by Modern Law Magazine, ten of Carpenters Group’s female colleagues were featured, highlighting the diverse talent and leadership within its team.
Showcasing growth, ambition, and support
Carpenters Group excitedly shares its achievements and its charitable ethos. At the BIBA 2025 Conference – the UK’s largest insurance brokers’ conference and exhibition, Carpenters had a bigger and bolder presence, including a new stand which was more than double the size of previous years, to demonstrate its growth and ambition and taking lead sponsorship of the first ever BIBA Women in Insurance Breakfast.
Earlier this Summer the business organised and sponsored the first ever Headway Sefton Ball at the Royal Liver Building, raising more than £14,000 for Headway Sefton, a charity supporting individuals affected by brain injury and their families.

Award winners
Carpenters Group was named Employer of the Year 2023 at the City of Liverpool Business Awards and was shortlisted for the Outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility Award at the Employer’s Excellence Awards in 2024.
Owner/Director and ‘accidental influencer’ Donna Scully has received many accolades including: Outstanding Achievement Award at the Personal Injury Awards; the Social Media Influencer Award from Insurance Post Magazine, and the Outstanding Achievement of the Year Award at the 2023 Modern Claims Awards. Most recently, she was named on Insurance Business UK’s ‘Elite Women’ List 2024 and won Merseyside Woman of the Year 2024!
Looking ahead
With a proud Merseyside heritage and a national footprint, Carpenters Group shows no signs of slowing down. As the business continues to grow, take on new household-name clients, and recruit across its seven UK offices, it is clear that this locally born brand is making a powerful mark on the insurance and legal sectors.
More than just creating jobs, Carpenters Group is actively driving positive change by championing inclusion and helping to shape a more socially mobile future.
