Outdoor events hub Salt and Tar is getting into the Christmas spirit with a fabulously festive market.

There’ll be food traders with mouthwatering cuisine from around the world, music, kids’ activities, gift stalls, and more, at the Winter Street Food Market at Salt and Tar in Bootle, from Friday, December 8 to Sunday, December 10.

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said:

“Over the past year, we’ve had some fantastic events at Salt and Tar, which has showcased its potential as a popular new outdoor venue.

“I can’t wait to welcome everyone back to see our Winter Street Food Market.

“There will be plenty on offer for the whole family to get you into the Christmas spirit, from delicious food and drinks, to live entertainment. It’s going to be a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the year and enjoy the festive atmosphere at Salt and Tar.”

Entry is free – along with many, if not most, of the activities and the Winter Street Food Market is a pilot event for Salt and Tar before it launches its full events and entertainment programme next year.

Earlier this year, it played host to a successful Comedy Weekender followed by a music festival in July, which saw more than 6,000 visitors attend and enjoy the venue. Top performers included Cast, Red Rum Clubm and The Lathums.

The family -friendly – and dog-friendly – Winter Street Food Market will have food and drink offerings on each day from a range of traders, among them Liverpool chef Eddie Kilty who’s worked with the likes of Tom Kerridge and who has launched his own new pop-up kitchen concept Bun & Pickle; Big Kahuna who’ll be offering hot hog roast sandwiches, and including Asian fusion foods, pad Thai, pizzas and more.

Salt and Tar is partnering with Lock and Quay to provide drinks from cask ales to hot cocktails and mulled wine, and Ginger Cat Coffee will be on hand with hot drinks and special hot chocolates.

Opening hours for the event are 4pm-9pm on the Friday, 12noon to 9pm on Saturday, and 12noonto 6pm on Sunday.

As well as food and drink, each day will have something different to offer:

* Friday – A live DJ will get the evening off to a lively start with funk, soul and disco music to create a chilled atmosphere while people enjoy the food and drink of offer.

* Saturday – There will be a drop-in craft workshop that’s free for kids from 12 noon to 3pm, and there’ll be a live music line-up with artists including acoustic duo Funky Jesus and Craig the Baptist. The DJ will return from 5pm.

* Sunday – There will be Storytime for kids with author and Little Lamb Tales’ Jude Lennon between 1.30-2pm and 2.30pm-3pm, and the day will kick off with music from Scrapyard Studio’s Rock Choir.

Bluebell Stalls will provide unique gifts and crafts with a collection of stall holders.
