Further details of the programme of supporting events taking place in Birkenhead Park while the renowned art exhibit, Gaia, is in town has now been unveiled.
As announced recently, Luke Jerram’s iconic ‘Gaia’ exhibition – a three-dimensional representation of our planet Earth – is coming to Birkenhead Park on the Wirral for three days next week as part of Wirral’s year as Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture 2024.
Now, further details of the exhibition and the events that will take place in its shadow on each day it is here have been announced.
Gaia will be located within Birkenhead Park in front of the Grand Entrance and will be open during the following times:
- Tuesday 28 May – 1pm to 10pm
- Wednesday 29 May – 10am to 10pm
- Thursday 30 May – 10am to 10pm*
To celebrate the exhibit coming to the Wirral, world-renowned outdoor arts organisation Walk the Plank have created an out-of-this-world programme of events.
Tuesday 28 May: Dance Around the Globe: Enjoy Morris dancing, stretch out with yoga and experience traditional dancing in the shadow of Gaia.
Wednesday 29 May: Love Your Earth Day: Try your hand at willow and bamboo weaving, beekeeping and you may even spot a giant tortoise and a talking flower.
Thursday 30 May: Wirral Sings: Dramatic fire-lit concert featuring local singer-songwriters and a performance by Flat Pack Opera. Bring your own refreshments and enjoy this mini prom in the park as the sun sets behind the magnificent Gaia.
… and don’t miss the People Powered Rocket
On Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 May, Walk the Plank will be bringing their environmentally-friendly take on George Stevenson’s Rocket locomotive to Birkenhead Park. Keep an eye out for this unique creation – fuelled by pedal power, and carrying some very unusual passengers!
