Wirral food businesses urged to make sure they are registered with the council

Wirral’s food businesses are being urged to ensure they are registered with the council to access all the support they need to run safely.

As part of World Food Safety Day, 7 June, Wirral Council’s team of Environmental Health professionals are reaching out to restaurant and café owners as well as home bakers and food delivery services, including new ones that may have started operating during the last 15months, to offer support.

Food businesses come in all shapes and sizes, including restaurants, café’s, pubs, home baked goods, and social media-based food businesses.

However, everyone operating a food business – whether that’s to store, handle, sell or deliver food or to cook and prepare the food – must be registered with Wirral Council.

Registering with the local authority will ensure that businesses have all the support that they need to operate safely and that customers can access the businesses food hygiene rating when they are looking for a bite to eat.

Businesses can register for free and will be provided with support packs, information and food safety inspections.

Register a food safety business here.

Cllr. Helen Cameron, Chair of the Tourism, Communities, Culture & Leisure Committee at Wirral Council, said:

“Uninspected food businesses operating without the necessary checks can be a real risk to public health and as we continue to deal with the impacts of the pandemic, it is more important than ever that businesses are taking the correct steps to ensure the safety of their customers.

“As restrictions continue to ease and we can enjoy eating out and hosting friends and family for dinner parties, if you are one of our local food businesses, let the council’s Environmental Health team help you get back to business safely.”

For more information about registering a business, visit the governments website.

Members of the public can also check if a business has been inspected and what their rating is here.
