Wirral residents and businesses are being asked to give their opinion on parking

A major new consultation is being undertaken by the local authority to get opinions on parking in Wirral.

All those with an interest – from residents to visitors and local businesses – are being urged to take part and Have Your Say.

Whether you think we should have more cycle parking, different charges for electric vehicles or parking in different locations – this is a unique opportunity to tell us what you think is working, what isn’t and what needs to be changed to provide better facilities now and for the future.

Chair of Wirral Council’s Environment, Climate Emergency and Transport Committee, Cllr Liz Grey, said:

“Developing a Parking Strategy will help the Council ensure we have the right facilities in place where they are needed and best support local communities and businesses. I would encourage everyone to get involved in this consultation – the parking strategy can also play a key role in helping us to combat air pollution and fight climate changetoo.”

Chair of the Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee, Cllr Tony Jones, said:

“We need as many people as possible to get involved in this consultation over the coming weeks, and not just drivers. Everyone has a vested interest in helping develop a Parking Strategy that works for everyone, to make sure our infrastructure meets the needs of all members of our communities and is for the future and our ambitions for Wirral.”

By using the feedback and opinions of all those who take part in the consultation, as well as data collected from traffic surveys and studies, the council aims to create a Parking Strategy that will:

  • Help support businesses and communities across the borough
  • Manage traffic (particularly through main centres)
  • Improve current car parking facilities
  • Ensure the right type of parking is in the right place for residents and local people
  • Improve access to and the ability to use more sustainable modes of transport

The consultation, which formally launched on Monday July 18, will be open for 10 weeks until September 25, and is just the first stage of the developing the new Parking Strategy.

Once a proposed Parking Strategy is drafted, there will be another opportunity to have your say on the options before the proposed changes are put in place.

Just some of the things that the consultation will ask about, are:

  • Cycle parking
  • Electric vehicle charging and parking bays
  • Disabled parking provision
  • On-street and Off-street (car park) parking
  • Enforcement and management of parking
  • Future development of parking
  • Parking tariffs
