World Cup Rugby Legend Challenges Liverpool’s Ladies at Liverpool ONE
7 years ago

We’re halfway through the Summer holidays and if you’re looking for something new for the kids to get stuck into then head on down to Liverpool One tomorrow as the Spirit of Rugby comes to Chavasse Park.
We’re a football mad city, there’s no denying that, but with a huge increase in boot camps, park runs and events like Morning Gloryville, Liverpool has never been so sporty, so how about trying your hand at rugby?
World Cup Rugby legend, Maggie Alphonsi challenges you to test your skills on the inflatable passing cage, take on the throwing tower and run the gauntlet with the pro’s.
Maggie said: “Play to Your Strengths is a fantastic programme and women’s rugby is a game like no other.
“If you’re looking for something different, something you haven’t done before and you want a new challenge, then try rugby.”
In an attempt to get more young people into rugby, and as a lasting legacy of London 2012, the Spirit of Rugby is devised and led by 16-24 year olds, which inspires other youngsters to join up to the fun and engaging events across the country. There’s something for everyone!
Former Rugby Sevens ace, Maggie wants to see loads of scouse women and girls turn out tomorrow to give rugby a try, she said:” Whether you’re tall or small, fast or powerful, tactical or combative, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve on the pitch, and I’m going to be on hand to give you some tips on Thursday.”
Can our sport mad city produce the next international rugby star, or even a whole team? You can catch Team GB Men’s Rugby Sevens in action today against New Zealand (having already beaten Japan 21-19 in their opening game) and our Kate will down at Chavasse Park with Maggie tomorrow to bring you all the action on our twitter feed.
