Advertorial

Liverpool FC’s AXA Melwood Training Centre is opening its doors to give you behind the scenes access.

The players might be taking a well-earned break but there’s still plenty of action at Liverpool FC this summer.

Including a rare and exclusive opportunity this June to go behind the scenes at the AXA Melwood Training Centre – with an LFC legend as your guide!

The lineup includes Phil Thompson, John Aldridge, Ian Callaghan, and Steve McMahon who are lacing up their tour boots ready to take fans around the iconic training ground to share their personal stories and memories of what it was like to train there and how special it is.

The elite training facility is now home to Liverpool FC Women.

Tom Cassidy, director of tourism, says: “Melwood is such an iconic part of Liverpool Football Club and it’s great to open the doors up during June for fans to visit for a special behind the scenes tour.  This exclusive access is for the first time in 10 years.”

The access all areas tour is available every weekend throughout June – so if you’re stuck for a Father’s Day gift idea, this could be the pressie he actually has always wanted! – and starts with a coach journey from Anfield to AXA Melwood where you’ll be greeted by one of the friendly and superbly knowledgeable tour guides.

You’ll learn how the name ‘Melwood’ came to be, and visit the dressing room, the boot rack, pitch-viewing areas, and gym facilities, and you can have your photo taken in the press room.

You can find out how Bill Shankly put players through their paces back in the day and how it compares with Matt Beard’s modern-day, state-of-the-art training methods for the LFC Women’s team.

There will be pitch side access to see where LFC Women prepare for matches and where all the former men’s Reds have trained before them.

Tom adds: “You can see the manager’s office where Klopp sat as well as other managers including Gerard Houllier  who instigated the refurb at Melwood, alongside the squad dining room and the social areas.

“The highlight (although the tour is also available without the ex-players) is having these former players who have made history for the club go back and reminisce about their time with it, and celebrate and share untold stories, memories, and anecdotes.”

Throughout your visit, there’ll be loads of opportunities to ask your legend any questions and get photos taken as a memento of an incredible day.

All tours include a complimentary souvenir guidebook – perfect for an autograph – and, on your return coach trip to Anfield, a visit to The Liverpool FC Story Museum to take a look at all that impressive silverware!
