Christmas is just around the corner, so it’s time to start planning to ensure you make the most of the season.
The city region has got everything you need to make it a special time of the year, and today we turn the spotlight on Southport. The town has an array of special events, festive feasts, musical performances and of course, a traditional pantomime.
Here is our guide to Christmas in Southport.
The Lord Street Festive Fun Day
Get your Christmas celebrations started with music, bitesize pantomimes, singalongs, face painting and more.
Join reality TV star Gemma Collins, and enjoy performances from pop star Lemar, and 90s favourites Toploader.
The celebrations take place from 12-5pm.

Christmas Tree Musical Light Show
Visit the Town Hall Gardens between 23 November and 5 January to see the Christmas tree and Boulevard of Light on Lord Street.
The 60ft LED Christmas Tree features an interactive musical light show featuring classic Christmas songs every hour.
Bear and the Reindeer will also be lit up to greet visitors.

Take the Gingerbread Trail
The Gingerbread Family will be in the town centre again from 23 November to 5 January. Find the ten characters to be in with a chance to win prizes if you find them all.

Santa’s Elves visit Southport Market
Take the kids along to Southport Market on 23 November to enjoy some festive fun and food. The elves will be meeting families and using their naughty and nice detector – so youngsters beware! Kids can meet the elves from 4pm – 6pm.

Churchtown Christmas Fayre
The picturesque village on the edge of Southport will be filled with festive cheer on Sunday 24 November for the famous Christmas Fayre. There will be live music, more than 40 stalls, festive food and drink, as well as Santa’s grotto. The fun starts at 12 noon with baby ballet and continues until 5pm. Entertainment will be hosted by Dune Radio. There will also be an elf hunt. Visit one of the village’s independent shops, bars and restaurants to ensure you make the most of the festive fun.
Christmas Gospel Choir
Enjoy a special evening of music with a gospel choir, bringing to life your favourite festive songs. You can also enjoy a mulled wine and seasonal food while you listen and singalong. Enjoy the music at Southport Market on 29 November from 7-9.30pm. Tickets cost £3, under ones go free.

Panto fun at The Atkinson
Experience the magic of the pantomime at The Atkinson where you can see the wonderful Sleeping Beauty from 6-31 December.
Starring CBBC magician Joel M, this traditional tale will captivate an audience of all ages. Get ready to boo, hiss, and cheer as the cast takes you on a magical ride through panto land. A variety of matinee and evening performances are available and accessible seating can be booked. There are also relaxed and captioned performances that ensure everyone feels welcome.

Afternoon Tea with Elsa
Join everyone’s favourite princess for a fun filled lunch at The Bold Hotel. The kids can enjoy tasty treats as well as the chance to meet Elsa herself. The festive fun is happening on 7 December in the main restaurant at The Bold, from 12-2pm. It costs £15 for children and £17.50 for adults.

Baubles and brunch at The Grand
Celebrate Christmas in style with this festive brunch event featuring REYONCÈ, the No.1 Beyoncé tribute act, at this gorgeous Lord Street venue. The brunch takes place on Sunday 8 December, from 2-5.30pm. A £10 deposit per person is required to confirm all festive party bookings.

Magical lunch with Santa
Santa will be visiting The Vincent Hotel in Lord Street with his reindeer for a special festive lunch. You can meet Santa on 15 December. Adults £39, under 12s £19, under threes £5. There will be a Christmas present for every child.

Enjoy a festive movie in cosy surroundings
From Elf, to A Muppets Christmas Carol, White Christmas and more, there is a festive flick to suit everyone at Southport’s award winning Bijou Cinema. Find this unique picture house at 8 Post Office Avenue, a side street off Lord Street, and a short four minute walk from Southport train station.

Indulge in a festive bottomless brunch
From roast turkey sliders to duck fat roast potatoes, all washed down with a festive themed cocktail, this bottomless brunch will see you celebrate in style. Add to that the sumptuous surroundings of Harry’s Bar in The Grand, Lord Street, and you won’t be disappointed by this seasonal feast of food and drinks.
