10 places to enjoy the sunshine across Liverpool City Region
5 months ago
It’s finally beginning to look like summer, and we can’t wait to get out there and enjoy the sunshine.
We’re in luck in Merseyside because there are loads of places across Liverpool City Region where we can enjoy – and make the most of – those glorious rays.
And from parks to the beach and bars, and more, here’s 10 to get you started:
Bus Yard or Lake House in Crosby
Crosby’s always a great place to head to when the sun shines, not least because it’s got miles of glorious beach and the added bonus of an ‘art exhibition’ thanks to Antony Gormley’s Another Place Iron Men statues. It’s also got the fabulous Bus Yard on the beach which has just reopened for 2024 with a new look menu, a bigger bar, seaside treats for kids and a special ‘a la bark’ menu for dogs, and not forgetting the gorgeous Lake House, with an amazing view of the marine lake and a stunning food and drinks menu.

And trust us, you’ll find it hard to beat Oh Me Oh My’s destination venue when it comes to cocktails with a cracking view!

New Brighton Prom
It’s the longest promenade in the UK so you’re guaranteed a great stroll along this famous Merseyside beach front. You can get sand between your toes if you tiptoe onto the golden sand and, it goes without saying, you can treat yourself to al fresco fish and chips or a 99 ice cream cone (or both!).
Roxy Ball Room Hanover Street – Rooftop Terrace
Roxy Hanover Street’s amazing roof terrace is another of the very best in Liverpool, a great place to enjoy drinks after games with your mates or just the perfect escape from the bustle of the city centre. There are views of Radio City tower and spectacular sights right across the city centre, so it’s worth a visit for those alone. And it’s a great sun trap if you want to – safely – get a golden glow.

Lark Lane
This vibrant and cosmopolitan area of South Liverpool is always bustling with people, but never more so than on a sunny day because there’s so many places to sit outside and enjoy watching the world go by with a glass in your hand, or grabbing a bite to eat with your mates. Our top tips would include Bookbinder which is on a lovely sunny corner, Minna which has tables at the front and the cutest courtyard at the back, and the Old School House with the biggest beautiful terrace to the side.
Formby Beach
This never ceases to be a summer favourite with miles of glorious sands for picnics and outdoor games, and those sand dunes that are great for hide ‘n’ seek with the kids. Course it offers the best of both worlds because it’s right beside the pinewoods which are perfect for more shaded walks and spotting its famous red squirrels.

Day Out in Southport
Oh we do like to be beside the seaside on a sunny day and Southport’s got lots of it with 22 miles of stunning coastline. With the biggest sandy beach, you can paddle and build sandcastles to your heart’s content and marvel at its 1,000-metre Victorian Pier – the second longest in the country. If you’re not in the mood for the beach you can stay shoreside with a visit to Victoria Gardens, have a go on the pedaloes on Marine Lake, head to the Model Railway Village or have fun at Pleasureland theme park. If you fancy a spot of retail therapy, you’ve got Ocean Plaza stacked with larger stores and restaurants, or the Victorian canopied boulevard of Lord Street with its speciality shops and designer boutiques (and charming tea rooms!).
Enjoy the Royal Albert Dock
Sun and Liverpool’s fabulous famous waterfront – what could be better?! The Royal Albert Dock’s got an abundance of al fresco dining spots with views around the dock; it’s home to some of Liverpool’s best independent venues and established names, like Maray, Madre, Gusto and Lunyalita, and promises a mixt of suntrap spots and sheltered seating making it one of the best destinations to catch-up with friends or spend the day with family. And you can add to that iconic views of the Mersey and the Three Graces, and tons of great events all year round.
