18 breakfasts and brunches to enjoy before the Grand National Festival 2026

If you’re ready for a great day at this year’s Grand National Festival at Aintree, you need to get off to a good start – and that means getting the best breakfast or brunch inside you.
So while we’re not sure about which horses are going to romp home – we do reckon all these amazing places are odds-on certainties for fabulous food before the races begin.
Hawksmoor Liverpool

If you’re heading to Aintree (or back into the city after the last race) Hawksmoor Liverpool’s a good place to start. They suggest you could start with oysters and a Negroni, then settle in for steak, monkfish, or something new: “A winning finish, whatever the bookies say!”

Race Day Breakfast at San Carlo

Join San Carlo for breakfast every day of the Grand National Festival from Thursday to Friday, April 9-11 between 9-11am. For just £25 per person you can choose one breakfast dish and a glass of prosecco or a bottle of Peroni (with non-alcoholic alternatives also available) and the menu includes steak & eggs, a full or vegan brekkie, and more. Breakfast at Radisson RED’s always a good bet, served Monday to Friday between 7am and 10am, and from 7am until 11am at weekends. Start your day with its boss breakfast buffet served in the gorgeous Stoke Brasserie and Grill overlooking St George’s Hall.

Whether you’re heading to the races or just love the excuse to get dressed up and start the day right, join Baby E Coffee & Deli for the ultimate pre-Aintree brunch. Served between 8.30am and 2.30pm from April 9-11, it’s £20 per person and for that you get any brunch dish and a drink of your choice from its race day menu (think the full works or smashed avocado on rustic brown toast, to poached eggs, crumbled feta, roquito pepper drops and chilli oil). Baby E warns: “Don’t fall at the first fence… this one books up fast.”

Get off to a winning start at The Shankly Hotel on Ladies Day and Grand National Day, April 10-11. The Sir Thomas Street restaurant’s offering its popular Race Day Breakfast and Bubbles/Beer on Ladies Day and Grand National Day itself including travel to and from Aintree. It’s served from 10am both days and costs £40 per person (it’s also available for £20 without travel). The menu includes a Full English Breakfast, Vegetarian/Vegan Breakfast, and Eggs Benedict with diced saute potatoes.

Start Ladies Day in style as Gusto offers a breakfast dish, 90 minutes of unlimited cocktails, fizz and bottled beer and a coach to the racecourse all for £56.75 per person. There are bookings available at 9.45 and 10am, and the coach leaves the Albert Dock at 11.45am arriving at the racecourse just after noon. Gusto is also open for breakfast and unlimited drinks on Grand National Saturday but there’s no travel.
