10 things that are happening in Liverpool in June

Summer’s just around the corner – how did that happen?! – but you don’t have to wait until then for loads of fab events happening across the city.

From art exhibitions and live music to great stage plays and even a fundraising dog show, there’s so much going on this month as always in Liverpool City Region.

So get your calendars at the ready because here’s 10 things you won’t want to miss.

Anfield gigs

For once The Boss at Anfield won’t be Arne Slot but Mr Bruce Springsteen who’s leading the line-up of some amazing musical talent at the Reds’ stadium. He’s there tomorrow and Saturday, June 4 and 7, with his E Street Band; and on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 24-25, Dua Lipa will be taking her Radical Optimism tour to the stadium. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, on Saturday, June 28, American singer-songwriter Lana del Rey completes a stellar line-up at the home of LFC.

Biennial

Liverpool Biennial is the UK’s largest free festival of contemporary visual art, and it’s on from this Saturday, June 7, to September 14. Taking over historic buildings, unexpected spaces and art galleries across the city, you can expect to see free exhibitions, performances, community and learning activities, and lots of outdoor installations that we all love tying to this year’s title of BEDROCK, echoing Liverpool’s sandstone foundations and its solid values.

Mowgli Dog Show

Everyone’s favourite dog show is back at Claremont Farm in Bebington, this Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8. It raises thousands for Claire House Children’s Hospice every year and, with competitions, demonstrations, classes, stalls and entertainment, it’s no wonder Mowgli founder Nisha Katona has dubbed it the ‘Glastonbury for pet lovers’.

Diana Ross

If she’s Coming Out, so are we! The legendary singer’s at the M&S Bank Arena on Monday, June 30, Live in Concert with the Halle Orchestra. It’s two years since she was last in the city and she’ll be back and wowing us with hits from her Supremes and solo career, including Ain’t No Mountain High enough, Can’t Hurry Love,  Do You Know Where You’re Going To, and more. With promises of breathtaking sets, lighting and costumes, you just know it’s going to be one hell of a show.

On the Waterfront

There’s some huge bands heading to the waterfront when this four-day festival returns from Thursday to Sunday, June 19-22. The Wombats are headlining on Thursday, with Irish folk band the Wolfe Tones leading the line-up on Friday for their last ever English show. Cream Classical Ibiza and the 50-piece Kaleidoscope Orchestra is taking to the stage on Saturday with special guests Groove Armada and on Sunday, Grammy Award winner and former Police frontman Sting will be closing the spectacular event.

The Walrus Has A Right To Adventure - The Guide Liverpool Calendar

A new play by Wirral writer Billie Collins, it premieres for just 10 performances from Thursday, June 12 to Saturday, June 21. Tasha Dowd, Reginald Edwards and Princess Khumalo star in the play which follows the lives of three different people for whom unexpected encounters with nature force them to re-think their lives.

Only Fools and Horses at The Empire

One of telly’s best-loved TV shows has been brought brilliantly to life on stage and in this new UK tour of Only Fools and Horses, the comedy genius that is Paul Whitehouse has returned to his role as grandad. You can catch him – and you don’t want to miss him – at The Empire from Monday, June 9 to Saturday, June 21.

Laces Out!

Laces Out!

The UK’s largest celebration of the sneakers, fashion & lifestyle in on this Saturday, June 7, as Laces Out! Trainer Festival takes place at BOXPARK Liverpool between 12 noon and 5pm. But it’s not just rare, collectible or exclusive trainees you’ll find, there’s also DJs, guests, fab food and drink and more, making it an event worth hot-footing it down to.

What a hero! Speedo Mick’s undie-clad walkathons have raised £1 million for charity and shone a spotlight on addiction and recovery. Now his life story is being told in a new musical, written by John Fay and starring Paul Duckworth as the man himself. Get ready for laughter and, maybe, a few tears.

Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 

The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament is back at Liverpool Cricket Club, with up-and-coming players lining up alongside some seasoned pros. Just the thing to get you in the mood for Wimbledon, the competition that’s welcomed the likes of Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Marat Safin, Caroline Wozniacki, and Martina Hingis in the past is on from Thursday, June 19, to Saturday, June 21, reinforcing the city as of one of the UK’s top tennis locations.
