Hope Street is one of our city’s most impressive thoroughfares and definitely comes into its own at Christmas.
With theatres, restaurants, cafes and bars, not to mention a cathedral at either end, there is something for everyone to enjoy this festive season. Here is our guide to Christmas on Hope Street.
The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity Christmas Concert
Hosted by local legend Pete Price, this will be a very special evening of music at the Metropolitan Cathedral.
Featuring Mezzo-Soprano Kathryn Rudge and world-renowned artist Emma Rodgers you can sit back as Wirral Orchestra and Choir take you on a magical sleigh ride of Christmas favourites, with a hint of Christmas in the Highlands courtesy of Wirral Pipe Band.
There will also be the chance to join in with your favourite Christmas carols.
Friday December 6, 7.30 pm. Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

Pen Factory
Pen Factory is a basement gem on Hope Street and it’s got new owners – the team behind The Bridewell – and a fresh look.
It’s nothing radical if you’re already a fan, just a little refurb, and there’s a new menu with small plates and mains like Scouse, Lancashire cheese & onion pie and Guinness braised short rib as well as a stunning Christmas Dinner.

Warm up with a drink in the White Hart
With a labyrinth of nooks, crannies and some of the most impressive Christmas decorations in town, the White Hart is the perfect place to escape the madness and warm up with a pre-Christmas drink.
Housed in a beautiful town house on Hope Street, you can enjoy a cask ale in front of a roaring fire and listen to some great tunes.
If you’ve remembered your big coat, then you could also enjoy the indoor/outdoor beer garden. Tuck into a Satterthwaites pie and catch one of the festive football fixtures on TV.

The famous Philharmonic Dining Rooms need no introduction, and the pub has a special atmosphere during the festive season.

Tuck into festive afternoon tea
The London Carriage Works has a gorgeous afternoon tea on offer for the Christmas season.
Enjoy a selection of finger sandwiches (including turkey of course), scones, caramel shortcake, spiced apple cake and more, all served with tea and coffee.
Add a glass of fizz to give you some extra Christmas spirit.

The Light Before Christmas Starlight

Warm yourselves with tales from Charles Dickens, read by an actor portraying the author, accompanied by mulled wine and puddings from the pantry.
