11 Liverpool restaurants serving festive food this Christmas

You can’t beat a festive menu for putting you in the Christmas spirit and giving you great value for money.


And getting together over a fabulous dinner for food and fun has never been as important as it is this year.

There are tons of places in town where you can feast on fantastic food and load up on Christmas cheer and here’s  11…

1. The Art School Restaurant

Chef Patron Paul Askew promises ‘gastronomic delights’ and ‘world-class wines’ at his fining dining restaurant in Sugnall Street which he proudly acknowledges as just having been described as ‘a spa for the soul’.

Not that we were in any doubt – but his festive menus are a real treat for the tastebuds.

His Festive Prix Fixe 2020 Menu is available Wednesday – Saturday, 12noon-2:15pm, and 5pm-6.15pm, and Sunday, 12noon – 4pm. Guests are greeted with an amuse bouche and, for three courses it costs just £36, starters for which include loin of red deer venison carpaccio with horseradish & parsley snow, Lilliput capers, pickled shallots, winter leaves & Cumberland sauce. Mains include roast breast of Thornton Hough pheasant, game pie, trompettes, cavolo nero, pommes Anna, butternut squash puree and quince & oloroso jus, and desserts feature maple & walnut macaron, mini Viennese mince pie, and white chocolate & passionfruit torte.

The Festive Menu Excellence 2020 is available Wednesday – Saturday 12noon- 1pm  and 6pm-9.15pm, and Sunday 12noon-4pm. Guests receive a glass of Charles Heidsieck champagne with a selection of Chef’s snacks and an amuse bouche, then a luxurious three course meal for £75. Starters include breast of Northop wood pigeon with pan-fried foie gras, preserved Frodsham Victoria plums in cognac, onion & hazelnut crumb served with port wine jus; mains, roast breast of salt-aged duck served with spiced red cabbage, apple, duck fat potatoes and Brussels sprouts with Southport smoked pork, pecan nuts and maple, and desserts, Sicilian lemon tart with sesame sable, blackberry foam and Italian meringue and Souffle of the day.

2. Miller & Carter

The perfect festive celebration is a real art – and one the folks at Miller & Carter Albert Dock reckon they’ve well and truly mastered ‘to make sure you’re treated to the most exceptional experience’ this Christmas.

You can indulge in their three-course set menu, or three-course & a glass of prosecco set menu between now and December 30 (excluding December 25-26), and priced at £30.95 and £34.95 respectively. The Festive Menu is available all day from Sunday — Friday, and from 12 — 5pm on Saturday, with a deposit of £10pp required for tables of five or more.

Included on the menu is Miller & Carter’s 30-day aged rump steak, or you could try a festive burger, minced from the finest prime steak and topped with cranberry and camembert, and served with seasoned sage and onion fries. Desserts include their rich chocolate pot served with whipped cream, white chocolate and raspberry bark and chocolate brownie for dipping.

3. Lu Ban

Experience the sparkle at one of Liverpool’s finest Chinese restaurants with its festive menu available from December 3 and promising a ‘delicious journey offering a range of dishes and delights inspired by Tianjin cuisine’.

The four course Christmas menu at the Stanhope Street restaurant is £55 per person and includes starters like traditional hot and sour baby vegetable soup, Jinhua-style ham and nashi pear, silken tofu and sesame, and jasmine tea smoked Scottish salmon. There’s roasted duck and pancakes, and mains including corn-fed chicken with Szechuan and Ma Po winter cauliflower, and a special dessert selection.

4. The Pen Factory

There’s no set Christmas menu at the Hope Street restaurant but lots of lovely plates to share and a thank you from Paddy and the Pen team for all who have supported them over the last few months and a ‘hope we will see you at Christmas time’.

Small Plates range from their cheese & onion crisp butty to the luscious smoked duck with winter slaw & spiced plum; soups like mushroom and chestnut and delicious larger plates like roast pork collar with spiced apples, parsnips & duck fat potatoes.

5. Frederiks

Festive fodder, boozy brunch & Christmas cheer… what more could you ask for in 2020?!

‘Fred’s Xmas Dinner’ is £17.95 for two courses and £20.95 for three.

Starters at the popular Hope Street venue include winter vegetable soup & rustic bread and classic prawn cocktail; for mains, there’s traditional roast turkey, 12-hour braised beef brisket, mushroom & spinach nut roast and pan roasted sea bass fillet, and desserts include vanilla cheesecake with mulled berry compote and sticky toffee pudding with amaretto sauce and vanilla ice cream.

6. Gusto

The Albert Dock favourite invites you to make memories this Christmas with the assurance that it will be serving its A La Carte menu throughout December, packed full of Gusto favourites, as well as some special festive dishes and tipples that are ‘bound to get you in the Christmas spirit’.

Starters include all your Italian favourites like mussels with warm focaccia bread, honey-glazed duck breast with Gusto’s own 12-year-aged balsamic, red wine jus, cavolo nero, creamy mash, and candied pistachios, and tantalising desserts like Bombolini and classic affogato.

7. Maray

Maray is ready to welcome back diners with a superb Xmas Feast Menu for lunch and dinner, priced at £19.50 and £29 respectively (each based on two people sharing).

On the lunch menu is mezze of pigs In blankets with Persian cranberry sauce, and pistachio rolled dates & tahini, plus lamb kofta or Chermoula Portobello Mushrooms and their signature Disco Cauliflower, crispy sprouts, rose harissa & preserved lemon roasted broccoli, parsnips and carrots.

Guests for the evening menu are offered fizz on arrival, the same plates and a dessert of pistachio, dark chocolate, tamarind & ginger tart.

8. Gino D’Acampo Liverpool

You might know the cheeky Italian would help us get into the festive spirit with a Christmas Lunch and dinner menu to fill us full of cheer.

The festive lunch menu is available between 12 noon and 4pm for £36.50 per person, and that’s for a three-course feast which includes favourites like king prawn bruschetta, sea bass with Italian salsa and lemon, and creamy panna cotta – and a glass of Prosecco Primo Brut on arrival.

The dinner menu is £50 per person and guests receive a glass of Ferghettina Brut and a selection of ‘Fantastico’ antipasti.

Dishes on the menu include carpaccio and calamari; crispy duck and farfalle with mushrooms and spinach in a white wine, garlic and cream sauce, and a selection of desserts.

9. The Philharmonic Dining Rooms

You get a free bottle of Prosecco when you book a festive menu for six, and the fab three-course fayre is just £25.95 per person and it’s available until December 31 (excluding Christmas Day when there’s a special five-course dinner, and Boxing Day).

You can get seasonal specialities like roast breast of turkey, slow-cooked pork belly, grilled sea bass fillets, 9oz chargrilled rib eye steak (+£5), and the ultimate indulgent dessert, their salted caramel chocolate bar. There are also plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.

10. The Florist

Walk in a ‘floral’ wonderland this winter with a festive visit to The Florist.

The Hardman Street restaurant promises a packed menu of food and cocktails guaranteed to cheer you .

They’re keeping that menu under wraps for now but say you can ‘expect delightful food, (vegetarian, vegan and non-gluten options always available) showstopping, seasonal drinks and an atmosphere like no other’.

11. The Club House

Tis the season to eat, drink and be merry, so ‘come home for Christmas 2020’ and spend it at The Club House, where you can enjoy heart-warming, home comforts and sparkling seasonal food and drink in The Club House or its Winter Lodges, which have returned by popular demand.

Like The Florist, the menu is yet to be revealed but you might want to book now to get one of those lovely lodges which feel like you’re in the poshest winter ski resort.
