It’s good to have a favourite place, but if you’re looking for somewhere new to try, here are some suggestions for where to eat breakfast in south Liverpool …

The Watering Can

The Watering Can in Greenbank Park is one of the most perfects spots to enjoy a hearty or a healthy breakfast in Liverpool. From a Full English, including a vegan and vegetarian option, to fancy French Toasts, Fruit Salad and Breakfast Barms, the Watering Can has everything to fuel you for the day ahead. Breakfast starts at 9am and last orders from the breakfast menu are taken at midday. If a walk in the park and a tea/coffee is what you need to start the day, they also do fabulous Artian Toast with Jam!

Leaf’s one of the busiest all-dayers on Smithdown, open from 9am without fail for breakfasts and brunch. Go full English, with veggie and vegan options, all the eggs from Benny to shakshuka or if you prefer it sweet then the cinnamon toast is a hands-down winner.

Since it opened in 2020 on Allerton Road, indie shop and café Skaus has been absolutely flying with fantastic breakfast and lunch specials including lots using Allerton-baked Plattsville Bakehouse breads. Check out the grilled soda bread with crushed avo and hot smoked salmon.


The Old Stables

For a beautiful setting and food just as good, The Old Stables at Allerton Manor Golf Club is a top pick and there’s a kids’ breakfast menu too. From 9am weekdays and 8am on weekends, try the warm buttered pancakes or Belgian waffles with maple syrup and a choice of toppings.


Three Piggies

From 10am every day, Three Piggies on Allerton Road is a popular spot for walk-in breakfasts and brunch. You’ll find Piggies and No Piggies big breakfasts, eggs including huevos rancheros, and buttered Kraster kipper with poached egg. There’s also a Wee Piggies menu for kids.


The Interesting Eating Co.

TIEC on Allerton Road has the claim to fame of being Liverpool’s first US-style pancake stack shop and it’s still their speciality. The pancakes, crepes and waffles are an absolute dream, with savoury and sweet toppings like Biscoff, strawberry and white chocolate, and Nutella and banana.


One Percent Forest, Woolton Village

If you like your breakfast with a chilled Nordic vibe then One Percent Forest in Woolton Village is the place. At weekends you’ll get late-night cocktails, but in the mornings keep it Scandi with OPF’s house waffles, topped with Skyr yoghurt, morello cherry compote, berries, pistachios and honey.


Bean There Coffee Shop – Smithdown

On the corner of Smithdown and Penny Lane, Bean There coffee shop & bakery has delicious cakes on the counter, but go early and it’s got a big brekkie menu. The house hashes with sourdough toast are a great full English alternative or get a sweet kick from topped toasted banana bread.

Breakfasts at the Tavern on Smithdown are legendary and the full English is an award-winner, but if you can see past that then give a try to the banoffee pancakes, French toast, the Mexican soft breakfast tacos or build your own omelette or scrambler stuffed with whatever you fancy.


52 Rose Lane

Breakfasts are one of the main attractions at 52 Rose Lane and it’s not hard to see why. There’s big and small full Englishes or if you’re feeling hungry change it up with the triple meat or triple veggie benny. If you want an alternative savoury waffle, that’ll be a fried chicken and maple syrup.


Neighbourhood Cafe, Woolton Road

On Woolton Road, this is – like the name says – a friendly neighbourhood café, really well-loved for its breakfasts and lunches and a relaxed family atmosphere. Open every day from 9am, give a go to the breakfast bagels, pancake stacks or Manhattan eggs with cream cheese and smoked salmon.

Little, cosy and with a lovely cheerful feel, NOMAD on Smithdown – opposite the junction with Ullet Road – is all about coffee, bites and some late nights with live music. The menu kicks off from 9am with breakfasts, the full English is a belter and the coffees are among the best around.


FIKA, Woolton Road

Named after the Swedish concept of sharing a coffee with mates or family, Fika on Woolton Road isn’t just at the centre of lots of great things in the community, it does amazing food. No-one leaves hungry after breakfast here, especially if you order the piled-high scrambled eggs and bacon!
