16 Liverpool restaurants perfect to visit with the kids this summer

It’s summer, the sun’s out – more often than not – and the kids have broken up from school, so why not celebrate by getting the family together for a fab meal out?
There are loads of great restaurants and places to eat throughout the city, and some are offering free food or fantastic dining deals for kids.
Here’s our pick of 16…
Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, Paradise Street
Bread Street Kitchen & Bar’s a first in the city for Gordon Ramsay and it’s become a favourite with its lively atmosphere that everyone loves. Better still, kids eat free (up to the age of 8 with each adult dining from the a la carte menu) and they can choose from dishes including delicious meatball pasta, bangers and mash, or fish and chips, and a soft drink. If they fancy something sweet to finish it off with, like a sticky toffee pudding, chocolate brownie or ice cream and chocolate sauce, it’s just £3.50.

The Quarter, Falkner Square
The Quarter has got one of the prettiest pavement seating areas with heating for when it gets a little cooler. You can watch the world go by while enjoying something from the grill, pizzas, or pasta, and there’s a cool kids’ menu which includes a drink, breadsticks, a main (pizzas and pasta) and ice cream for £6.50.

The Old Stables – Allerton Manor Golf Club
This fab restaurant on the site of the former stable block and courtyard is one to get you racing out for food this summer. The Old Stables has become a firm favourite as a family-friendly restaurant with classic British dishes, and a great three course menu for the under 12s at £10 (two courses for £8.50) with starters including hummus, and soup of the day, and mains from sausage, mash and gravy to pasta bolognese. The outside terrace area is great too, surrounded by gorgeous greenery and blooms.

Smoke & Dough, Paradise Street
You can enjoy a delicious smoked BBQ at your table complete with an assortment of salad, vegetables, breads and dips, and while you tuck into your meats and skewers (which can be replenished multiple times at no extra cost!!) the kids can enjoy a bento box for £6.99 with mac n cheese, chicken nuggets, mini burger, French fries, baked beans, cucumber and cherry tomatoes.

Tavern Co, Penny Lane
Voted Liverpool’s Most Family Friendly restaurant, it’s always a hit with mums and dads, as well as little people. The menu is chocka with home-made Mexican dishes and it has one of the best breakfasts around.
The kids’ menu includes everything from BBQ ribs to a fish finger sandwich or pizza bagel for £4.95.

What’s Cooking Grill & Bar, Albert Dock
Another great place for families with those amazing views overlooking the water at the Royal Albert Dock is What’s Cooking.
The kids’ menu includes a cheeseburger, veggie burger, fish fingers, BBQ chicken wings, chicken goujons or hotdog, with fries, and all for just £7.50.

Yard & Coop, Hanover Street
Winner winner, chicken dinner! You can’t go wrong with free chicken and that is exactly what is on offer at Yard and Coop this summer, every day from 12pm – 6pm.
For every adult meal ordered, kids can choose from chunky boneless fried chicken or crispy cauliflower bites in the secret Yard & Coop buttermilk recipe! Both are served with a choice of chips, mac n cheese, cheesy mash or salad, PLUS all kids meals include ice cream served with sauce and sprinkles.

Pancake Time at Bill’s, Liverpool ONE
Food and art – what a brilliant idea! The folk at Bill’s think the greatest art can be found on a plate, so put aside the paints and the playdough, it’s pancake time!
Every day between 3pm and 5pm this summer, kids can build their own pancakes using a selection of creative toppings – and get a juice – all for £3.95.

Yo! Paradise Street
Japanese favourite Yo! is not just about sushi, the menu includes ramens, katsu curries, teriyaki, Japanese street food and more. The Japanese dishes are taken from the belt or ordered from the open kitchen so it’s a great place to go with the kids because they’ll love watching all the food go round. And, better still, this summer, kids can get a free bento box meal with every £10 adult spend.
Children under 10 can enjoy free meals between Monday to Thursday, from 3pm-5.30pm, and dishes include crunchy chicken katsu with veggie rice and edamame, with fresh fruit for dessert and a juice drink.

Lunya, Liverpool ONE
This Catalonian family-run restaurant and bar is a real favourite, not least because you’re assured of that warm Mediterranean welcome and the feeling that families have a special place here. An award-winning restaurant offering the best of Catalan and Spanish food, its menu’s filled with deli platters, meats and Artisan cheeses and meat, fish and vegetable tapas totempt the tastebuds.
The children’s menu which is £8.50 for under-12s has the usual chicken strips but also fabulous tapas with chorizo, squid, meatballs and patatas braves to coax younger members of the family to try something different and be a little more adventurous.

TGI Fridays
You can get stuck into grills, ribs, Tex Mex favourites, burgers, chicken and more from Fridays, while the kids choose from the Fridays Little League dishes from £5.25, or the Major League, mini versions of the Fridays’ favourites from £6.75
The menu includes choices from real fish fingers, chicken or hamburger or boneless bites with two sides including house or sweet potato fries, vegetable rice and corn wheels or broccoli, with desserts starting from £1.50. And, if there’s a smaller family member, free baby food is available too.

Riva Blue, Castle Street
You could almost bet the bambinos (under 11) wouldn’t be forgotten at this new authentic Italian with a great menu just for them.
There’s everything from plates of pasta to fresh cod nuggets and crispy chicken and, of course, create-your-own pizzas. There’s even a ‘sundae bar’ with home-made ice creams, sauces and sweets.

Miller & Carter Steakhouse, Albert Dock
Few things come close to a good steak and chips and that’s what Miller and Carter does to perfection with a choice cut of 30-day aged British and Irish beef – ribeye, fillet, sirloin or perhaps a chateaubriand to share.
There’s a two-course menu for younger members of the family for £8.45 with a mains choice of steak, chicken, fish dishes, pasta, burgers and more – if they want to, they can add a third course, and that’s all for just £10.95.

Viva Brazil, Castle Street
Kids under 10 eat rodizio for free at Viva Brazil on Castle Street with each full-priced adult meal, so if you’re watching the pennies at the moment – and many of us are – it’s a great place to enjoy a fab family meal out and a enjoy a well-deserved treat. Kids rodizio includes four meats, unlimited sides and a dessert. (For extra children or children aged 10 to 14, it’s £9.95).
It’s always a bit of an occasion here with its troop of passadors (meat carvers) moving from table to table, offering cuts of succulent meats all slow-roasted over a charcoal barbeque and expertly carved in front of you.

The Smugglers Cove, Albert Dock
Kids just love this pirate themed restaurant which means parents can sit back and enjoy it too.
You’ve got great views of the Albert Dock and a hearty feast to look forward to so, shiver me timbers, when can we go?!! The menu is packed with favourite dishes like steak and ale pie and beer-battered fish and chips, along with great fish dishes, steaks and, of course, its signature hanging kebabs, and kids’ meals are £6.95, complete with a main course, mini salad and a dessert.

Slim Chickens, The Terrace, Liverpool ONE
American dining giant Slim Chickens arrived at Liverpool ONE this summer, right opposite Chavasse Park.
So if you haven’t tasted their signature fresh buttermilk marinated, hand-breaded and cooked-to-order chicken tenders, you could make it a family adventure. Their cooked-to-order buttermilk marinated chicken tender kids’ meal which includes two tenders, Texas toast, fries, carrots, cucumber and a carton of drink is only a fiver. And, if you reckon your kids deserve an extra treat, their handspun shakes in a choice of flavours are also on the menu for £5 too.
