The benefits of giving up the ale can be surprising in many ways… but don’t worry we’ve put a list together so that you can occupy yourself without having a bevvy.
Following the festive celebrations of Christmas, it’s highly likely that a considerable number of us will contemplate veering onto a path of sobriety with Dry January.
The Climbing Hangar

Sensations Liverpool
Helping to keep their guests on track this Dry Jan, Sensation’s popular cocktail trees have gone alcohol free for the month, with delicious mocktails made up of Virgin Passionfruit Martini, Virgin French Martini and Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri available to purchase.
For a six mocktail tree, it’s £30 or for 12 it’s £55 and all trees are served with a sparkler procession to make them extra special!

Discover your inner artist
If you want to try your hand at painting under the guidance of a professional artist there is the chance to join relaxed and fun classes at Southport Market.
Whether you are a complete novice or an enthusiastic amateur who wants to develop your skills, all are welcome at Paint and
Sip with The Paint Republic – Almond Blossom.
The sessions will take place on 14 February from 7-9pm and will be fun, filled with music, banter, art and possibly a drink or two.
Arrive 15 minutes before your class begins to choose your seat and get settled.
Events are for adults, 18 plus only, and food and drinks are available for purchase from the venue and are not included in the ticket price.
There will be another class in March if you miss out on this one.

Open water swimming is booming in popularity, with clear mental and physical health benefits.
If you are keen to give it a try, then we’d recommend heading to Liverpool Watersports Centre.
Nestled on the historic waterfront, you can enjoy open water swimming in a safe and supportive environment, whatever your level of experience.

Shiverpool is Liverpool’s most famous theatrically led historic ghost walks. Join the team as you wander the city streets at night, learning the spooky side of the city.

If you’re over on the Wirral, go ghost hunting at Mayer Hall in Bebington, an historic location steeped in paranormal activity.
Built in 1878, Mayer Hall has been a museum, art gallery, and community hub, but it’s the eerie tales of ghostly footsteps, mysterious cold spots, and disembodied voices that intrigue most visitors.
The next event is on 22 February 2025 from 9pm-2am. Tickets £29.

Immerse yourself in books
Lingham’s Booksellers in Heswall host monthly book clubs for both adults and children.
The Junior Book Club is ideal for ages eight – 12.
Kids can join and enjoy reading a new book every month with the chance to share their ideas and opinions with other enthusiastic readers. Tickets are £10 and include a copy of the book and refreshments.
The adult lunchtime book club is also really popular. Entry is £5, which includes a hot drink and 10 per cent off the book.

Become a volunteer
Volunteering doesn’t just help other people, but it gives us a purpose, helps us meet new people and can even lead to new skills and friendships.
We have so many brilliant charities in Liverpool who are always looking for help from volunteers. That could mean helping marshal an event, like Clatterbridge Cancer Charity’s Glow Green Walk, or collecting and distributing groceries for an organisation like Fans Supporting Foodbanks.

Try out a board game café
HARP Coffee and Games is in Southport and aims to celebrate the simple things in life by providing a calm and relaxing environment.
You can sit down with your favourite drink and a cake, or gather round the gaming tables with friends.

Flight Club Liverpool
Flight Club has all the ingredients needed for an epic booze-free experience.
The fairground-inspired bar looks spectacular (think lights blinking in time to the music and an actual carousel horse).

Splash Art
England’s first interactive art studio has opened in Liverpool, offering visitors the chance to create their own masterpieces by splashing, squirting, splattering and shooting paint at a blank canvas.
Splash Art, located in former theatre The Green Room in the Ropewalks district, offers a variety of artistic experiences, from pendulum art to dart and spin. You can even blast each other in the dark with neon paint-filled guns.

Walk along New Brighton Prom
Jump the ferry over to Seacombe and walk the promenade up to New Brighton!
Add a bit of magic to your stroll along the prom and follow the Mermaid Trail. Designed by local artist Barry Canning-Eaton and decorated by local schools and arts groups, the trail of colourful, life-sized mermaid statues can be followed around New Brighton Promenade.
