21 things for your May Day Bank Holiday Weekend in Liverpool

The start of May means there’s another Bank Holiday to look forward to, just as we were still on a bit of a high from the Easter four-dayer.
If you’ve got the Monday off and you’re planning to make the most of the weekend, here are 21 things to do in and around Liverpool …
The Smithdown Weekender
If you want a weekend packed with live music, you need to head to Smithdown Road because the Smithdown Weekender is taking over four venues over four days plus there’s a pop-up beer garden on the Mystery too on Saturday and Sunday. The Handyman and Black Cat will have the main stages, Frank’s and The Beeswing will have smaller stages and Defend Vinyl is doing an in-store acoustic session on Saturday from 2pm.
Sound City
Sound City is back and celebrating its 15th anniversary with a massive line-up of artists on Saturday and Sunday, showcasing some incredible music talent. The main stage is now at Arts Club on Seel Street, and you can also catch Sound City gigs at Zanzibar, The Jacaranda, EBGBS, Jimmy’s, Arts Club Loft, Shipping Forecast and Kazimier stockroom.
Dua Lipa plays M&S Bank Arena
After two previous dates had to be postponed, pop sensation Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia tour finally makes it to Liverpool this Friday. Expect a fantastic show at the Arena and all the hits off her debut and follow-up albums including New Rules, One Kiss, Don’t Start Now and Cold Heart.
Liverpool Disco Festival
LDF9 comes to Camp and Furnace this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, with a stunning line-up including the legendary Incognito performing a 90-minute set, Dimitri from Paris, Kings of Tomorrow featuring Julie McKnight, the LDF orchestra performing disco and soulful house classics, and loads more amazing artists and DJs.
The Bus Yard launch party at Cains Brewery Village
The Bus Yard open-topped double decker is coming back to the Baltic from this Friday and it’s planning a party from 7pm at Cains to celebrate with entertainment and live music, cocktails, and street food from its new resident trader, SMF, fulfilling all your fried chicken needs and more.
Get your game on at Roxy Ball Room
A big Bank Holiday weekend is the perfect time to get out and challenge your mates to a few games, with drinks on the side. Roxy Ball Room’s got crazy pool, beer pong, shuffleboard, ping pong and if the weather’s decent you can get up on the rooftop at Hanover Street with cocktails and a slice and fries.
Waterloo Beer Festival
Craft drinks lovers can celebrate the return of Waterloo Beer Festival with three days at Old Christ Church in Waterloo. On from Friday to Sunday, there’ll be around 100 different types of ale and cider from UK microbreweries, plus boutique gins, spirits, wine and prosecco, live music and Peninsular Pies.
Spring Break Weekender at PINS
Why should Americans have all the Spring Break fun? Get over to PINS on Duke Street from Friday to Monday for a Spring Break Weekender done Liverpool style with live bands on the roof, DJs, a BBQ menu and beer pong. And tequila, definitely lots of tequila.
The Good Market at GPO in the Metquarter
The Good Market, which showcases lots of fabulous local creatives and makers, is back at GPO in the Metquarter on Saturday, from 11am to 4pm. Support our indies, get some great buys, food and drink, there’ll be a DJ on all afternoon and it’s free admission.
The Untold Orchestra celebrate Radiohead at Camp and Furnace on Friday
Fans of Radiohead are in for an absolute treat on Friday because the amazing Untold Orchestra have got another one of their regular dates at Camp and Furnace, and this time it’s Radiohead classics getting an orchestral reworking with special guest singers.
80s Live at M&S Bank Arena
Double denim and Ray-Bans out because it’s the ultimate 80s night at the Arena on Friday, with all the hits of all the icons like Wham, Culture Club, Madonna, The Human League and Duran Duran. Live band Electric Dreams will be playing dozens of back-to-back classics in what’s going to be a huge 80s party night.
DJ Sarah Story of Radio One plays The Merchant on Sunday

If you’ve already discovered the fabulous tapas at So Salsa in Crosby then the very good news is they’re now on Castle Street too, at the old Maluco site. It’s a family-run restaurant specialising in tapas dishes from around the world, not just Spain, and as well as the small plates the desserts, like the stuffed churros and Biscoff cheesecake, are incredible.
Tasty food including Sunday roast at River North
For cocktails and a beautiful roast this Sunday, give River North on Berry Street a try. Take your pick from salt-aged roast beef sirloin, lamb or a nut roast, all served with Yorkshire puds, roasties and seasonal veg, then maybe go for a couple of their signature spritzes on the side.
Try the new Hollywood inspired menu at Six By Nico
Hooray for Hollywood, because that’s the latest menu theme from the team at Six By Nico on North John Street. Ditch the popcorn and go for a six-course tasting menu inspired by some big screen classics and icons, like The Godfather and Pulp Fiction. On from April 27 until June 5.
