Dark nights are here, the weather is turning colder… what do we need? Comfort food!

One of the best ways to get that cosy feeling on cold night is a nice bit of pie, mash and gravy. Can’t be bothered leaving the house for a sit-down meal though?

Pullman Jack’s

Pullman Jack’s use the best ingredients possible to create traditional & contemporary, artisan pies. Their all-butter pastry combined with traditional flavours make up their quirky pies. 

You must try their Chicken Chip Shop Curry Pie. Two winter warmers coming together to make an epic comfort food moment! Their shop in Waterloo offers a wide selection of freshly baked pies, side dishes & desserts to take away or Click and Collect.

The Gluten Free Pie Company 

Denise’s passion for making pies started from parties hosted at her flat in Yorkshire back in 2015. She found it difficult dining out due to her allergies and intolerances, and now The Gluten Free Pie Company runs their bakery from the heart of Liverpool 8. 

You have to try their Blind Scouse pies, they’re a massive hit with everyone… of course they are… it’s Scouse in a pie! You can get get their pies delivered from the online shop, or you can spot them in places like Papillon on Hope Street.

The Dungaree Baker

Can’t have a list of pies and not include some sweet pies, because that would be criminal. 

Umrana, AKA The Dungaree Baker, believes in farm to fork – and sources as much of her fresh fruit from local farmers as possible –  to minimise the carbon footprint. All-butter pastry makes their flakey, sweet and savoury crusts. There are no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives used and everything is baked from scratch.

You must try their Nutella Pie – signature Oreo crust filled with Nutella, Philadelphia cream cheese and whipped cream, making it so creamy and dreamy. The pie has been finished with hazelnut wafer rolls, with dark and white chocolate sauce drizzled on top. It’s a showstopper and one slice just won’t be enough!

Homebaked Bakery

A community owned bakery standing in the shadow of Anfield Stadium, famous for their fresh bread and award winning pies. Homebaked Community Land Trust started from having saved their iconic neighbourhood bakery from demolition, and it has now developed into a thriving community business. 

Serving up delicious pies like their Shankly, Scouse, and Klopp pies – it’s not one you want to miss out on… especially on a match day.

Dishes by Dan 

Keen amateur chef Dan Smith launched a Supper Club in south Liverpool, creating dinner party-style nights in his family home, earlier this year. More recently, Dan announced on social media that he has been baking pies to sell, after being inspired by the home cooked pie he made especially for his wife on their one-year anniversary. 

You have to try the Steak and Ale pie – slow cooked brisket in a rich Bier Head Best Bitter sauce. He offers free delivery. Keep an eye on his Instagram for when he will be baking his next batch.
