5 Reasons why you dont want to miss BBC Sports Personality of the Year in Liverpool

It’s not just about suited and booted footballers at this years biggest sports bash, check out the entertainment line up too!

For the first time ever BBC Sports Personality of the Year (or SPOTY for short) returns to a host city, and after an incredible evening back in 2008, the annual sporting celebration returns to the city to recognise the very best of local and international sporting talent. Presenters Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Gary Lineker will be joined in the Echo Arena by an audience of around 11,000, including us, as our cameras bring you exclusive interviews and back stage gossip from the fittest green room around.

Of course we will be there to capture all of the red carpet action as it happens and our Kate will be bringing you the latest and greatest as the wins come in. Head to our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages to keep up to date.

Watch above as Kate meets Tony Bellew, Beth Tweddle and SPOTY Executive Editor (and scouser) Carl Doran at the Bluecoat when the news broke that this huge sporting event was returning to the city.

You might think that BBC Sports Personality of the Year is all about presenting trophies, but there’s so much more to this special evening. Check out these 5 reasons why you should get your tickets to be part of the biggest sporting celebration in the UK.

1 – The Entertainment line up is superb

The BBC have announced that Noel Gallagher will be opening the annual prestigious sporting awards show along with his band High Flying Birds, plus Rag N’Bone Man will also perform on the night alongside scouse singer/songwriter Rebecca Ferguson (and there’s rumours that Craig Charles will take to the decks to bring a little funk and soul to proceedings).

2 – Every guest is a VIP

As black tie event guest lists go, BBC Sports Personality of the Year is basically the sports version of the Oscars! The 12 finalists for the biggest gong of the night alone are giants in their fields, from Sir Mo Farrah and Anthony Joshua, to Elise Christie, Johanna Konta and Lewis Hamilton – we can’t wait to see who will walk the red carpet, and take home the trophy.

3 – Acknowledging Young Talent & Unsung Heroes

BBC Sports Personality of the Year isn’t just about those at the top of their game, although they inspire some of the other short listed finalists of the night. The awards bash celebrates the dedication, achievements and tireless efforts of those in the sporting community who strive to get other to the top as well as the athletes themselves. Prepare to shed a tear and give a standing ovation to the unsung heroes and talented youngsters on the night too. Click here to check out the full 8 awards being presented on the night.

4  – Scouse Invasion

It wouldn’t be a scouse awards night without a host of home-grown talent in attendance! From the pre-event entertainment to the awards themselves, we’ve got so much to be proud of. Rebecca Ferguson and Craig Charles will both perform at the star-studded event while north west sports nominees include Taekwondo Olympian Bianca Walkenden, LFC Academy star Rhian Brewster, and Chester-born Cricketer Sophie Ecclestone.

5  – You decide who takes home the big one

The best thing about the biggest award of the evening is that you get to vote on who wins. From the list of 12 finalists, the audience can cast their vote using their mobile phones. Who is your BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017? Click here to check out the finalists.
