7 sizzling summer destinations you can get to from Liverpool John Lennon Airport in 2026

It’s that time of year when we start seriously thinking about where we fancy for our summer holidays or a well-earned break away – and the recent sunshine here’s made us long for it even more.

The good news is that there are more flights and amazing places you can jet off to from Liverpool John Lennon Airport this year, making it easier and more hassle-free to get your annual dose of incredible culture, golden beaches, fabulous food experiences, and more.

Whether you want to chill by a pool or at the beach or explore ancient sights, Crete can offer it all, along with a laid back atmosphere that makes any holiday here so relaxing.  easyJet fly out every Thursday, with Jet2 departing for Heraklion Airport on Tuesdays and Fridays. Heraklion Archaeological Museum is a fab attraction for history lovers where you can learn all about the ancient history and people of Crete with exhibits dating back thousands of years, while walkers just have to head to the Samaria Gorge, a hiking trail that cuts through the rugged White Mountains (Lefka Ori) of this, the largest of the Greek islands.

Another Greek treasure for sun and culture lovers, and Liverpool John Lennon has plenty of choices when it comes to departure with flights going out on Sundays and Wednesdays with easyJet; Mondays and Thursdays from June with Ryanair, and Mondays and Fridays from May with Jet2. Think sweeping sands and seemingly endless sunshine, the chance to lose yourself in the narrow lanes of Corfu Town with its elegant old Venetian and French-style buildings, and food infused with Greek and Italian influences.

Lisbon – easyJet

Lisbon - LJLA Destinations

easyJet’s just launched its flight to Lisbon marking the start of a new direct connection between Liverpool and Portugal’s vibrant capital city. It’ll operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer season, with the chance for travellers to soak up all that one of Europe’s most welcoming cities has to offer. Enjoy a Tuk-tuk ride through its winding streets or hop of one of its famous trams to journey through the city’s hills or see historic landmarks like Belém Tower and São Jorge Castle, listen to its Fado music – and do not return home without sampling one (or several) of its to-die-for pastel de nata custard tarts.

Bulgaria – Ryanair

It’s a European destination often overlooked, but the Bulgarian capital of Sofia is quirky, full of culture and surprisingly cosmopolitan … perfect for a fabulous city break. Ryanair operates services five days of the week this month (April) and on Monday, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from May. Sofia’s home to some of the world’s most impressive museums and churches, as well as a lively nightlife scene, restaurants and must-visit attractions like the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Ivan Vazov National Theatre.

Madeira – Jet2

A good place to visit all year round, but especially in the summer when temperatures are at their best.  The scenery in Madeira is breathtaking and it’s well known for its watersports and marine life -so you can go whale or dolphin spotting before sampling some its equally well-known Madeira wine.  The capital Funchal’s toboggans are definitely a visitor favourite, but the Botanical Gardens and rock pools at Porto Moniz are a must too. Jet2 has once a week flights – Monday – to the Portuguese island.
