8 places to grab breakfast in Ainsdale and Formby
Breakfast in Ainsdale and Formby

We’re spoiled in Merseyside with some of the best stretches of sandy beaches in the country.

If you’re planning a half term walk along the Sefton coast, you’re going to want some ideas for breakfast in Ainsdale and Formby!

Who doesn’t love a spot of breakfast after a walk on the beach?

It’s just over a year since the Squirrels decamped from Formby pinewoods to Ainsdale village and they have gone from strength to strength.

This café has a lovely family feel and they are famous for their home-made cakes – but breakfast is a treat too.

The menu can change from time to time, with specials added on occasion like breakfast bagels or omelettes. The regular breakfast menu features all your favourites and the American style pancakes come highly recommended.

Tipple, Ainsdale

Tipple is one of our favourite Ainsdale hangouts, with a great atmosphere and gorgeous outdoor space to watch the world go by. What better time for some people watching than breakfast?

Whether it is Belgian waffles smothered with fruit and Nutella, or beans on toast you’re in the mood for, there is something for everyone, whatever your appetite.

There is also a bottomless brunch for special occasions.

Conveniently sitting right next to the train station, and probably closest to the beach of all the village cafes, MeCycle isn’t just for cyclists.

Yes, you might enjoy your breakfast next to a group taking a break from two wheels, but everyone is welcome. The café is a social enterprise and provides supported work placements for people with autism of all ages.

Breakfast is a simple affair with porridge, toasted teacakes, bacon or egg on toast and of course a fry ups on offer, there is also lots of pleasant space outdoors for dining if it’s a mild autumn day.

And if you are a cyclist, there is a bike workshop on-site too.

No.6 Coffee and Kitchen, Freshfield

Perfectly place right across the road from Freshfield train station, No.6 might only be just over a year old but this friendly, family run café is fast becoming a favourite for locals and visitors alike.

The brilliant brunch menu features all your old favourites and a few different dishes too like Spanish or Turkish eggs and the popular breakfast burger. There are also fruit bowls and smashed avocado on sour dough if you feel like something on the healthy side.

There is loads of space indoor and outside, so if you’re heading to Freshfield for a walk in the pinewoods, this is a great stop off point.

If it’s a breakfast pastry you’re in the mood for, Kiosk Coffee has got you covered, and then some.

From simple croissants to cinnamon buns and Nutella cruffins, the counter is packed with temptation. There are also healthy juices, fruit and granola options and a host of other savoury sandwiches to satisfy your breakfast and brunch needs.

And don’t let the bad weather put you off! Grab a table under the canopy and outdoor heaters before heading down to the beach for a bracing autumn walk.

With beautiful surroundings, attentive staff and a great menu, Emily’s has established a stellar reputation since it opened in Formby nearly a year ago.

Whether you fancy steak and eggs, Moroccan eggs or the indulgent pancake stack, Emily’s has a brunch menu to match all brunch menus.

The gorgeous botanical terrace brings the outdoors inside, ensuring a gorgeous brunch environment, whatever the weather.

Delish has a reputation for great desserts, and the ice cream bar is ever popular but they do a great breakfast too.

Whether you’re in the mood for a fry up or a pancake, there is a lovely morning selection.

And if you’re in mood, there are some tasty smoothies on the menu too.

Queen’s Road Social, Formby

We love this quirky neighbourhood café in Formby that hosts everything from cheese nights, to make up master classes.

It is also a good breakfast hangout too. If you fancy an old favourite, QRS have just started serving sausage and bacon barms or you can tuck into a breakfast pastry or fruit and yoghurt.

And if you’re lucky enough to call in on a sunny autumn morning, grab an outdoor table in the pretty courtyard.
