8 places perfect for pumpkin picking this Halloween

October is here and it’s time to start decking out your home for Halloween.

The centrepiece of your seasonal celebrations must be a good pumpkin and picking it can also be a fun outing for you and all the family.

Here are eight of the best places to pick a pumpkin in and around Merseyside.

Molly’s Urban Farm, Eastham, Wirral

Get along to Molly’s Urban Farm in Chester Road to pick your own pumpkin, carve it, and enjoy a hot chocolate or juice with cake at Roosters Café. Sessions last 45 minutes each and cost £12.95 per person.

Church Farm, Thurstaston, Wirral

With more than 3000 pumpkins grown at Church Farm there are plenty to choose from and as part of the Fright Festival there is so much more to do as well. The festival runs until the end of the month and will also feature the Skull Search this year. The pumpkins can only be reached by one of the time tractor rides, so make sure you plan your trip.

Goredale Garden Centre, Chester High Road, Burton, Wirral

The kids can set off on an adventure in search of the hidden pumpkins on the Goredale Pumpkin Trail. Once you discover the secret code word you will be granted access to the Pumpkin Patch, where you can select your favourite pumpkin to take home. It costs £4 per child. No need to book, just turn up. Runs Saturday 21st – Tuesday 31st October.

Claremont Farm, Wirral

Due to open at the end of this week, the pumpkin patch at Claremont Farm is always popular so don’t leave it too late to visit. Pay for what you pick, no booking required. See the website for more details.

There are also Halloween films showing at the farm, just off the M53 motorway, to get you in the spooky mood. You can scare yourself on the big screen with ParaNorman and Beetlejuice on 27th October, Hocus Pocus on the 28th and 28 Days Later on the 28th.

Pumpkin Alley, Downholland, West Lancashire

The Pumkin Express is a new addition for 2023 at the alley in Delf Lane, in Downholland near Ormskirk, with the train running at selected times and days until 23rd October, when it is running every day. Check Facebook for more details. There are white pumpkins as well as traditional orange for picking, so you can give your traditional Halloween decorations a twist.

Pumpkin Alley is open Mondays – Saturday 10am – 5pm and Sundays 10am – 4pm. Well behaved dogs are welcome.

The Pumpkin Patch, Hightown

It opened on Sunday and is one of the most popular place to pick a pumpkin in Merseyside.

You’ll find the Pumpkin Patch in Orrell Hill Lane and it is open from 9am-6pm every day until 31st October with no booking or admission fee. There are refreshments on sale and a picnic area, you can bring the dog and the kids can also enjoy the maize maze.

Rainfords, St Helens

Famous for its Christmas trees, Rainfords in Catchdale Moss Road, St Helens, also has a wide selection of pumpkins for you to pick from this month.

Grab a wheelbarrow or simply pick a pumpkin every day while stocks last. You can also carve in the special covered area for an extra fee and then wander round the centre and maybe even sneak a peak at the impressive Christmas offerings.

Kenyon Hall Farm, Croft

Open every day until 31st October, you will get to pick from almost 15,000 pumpkins at this farm in Winwick Lane, Croft, Warrington. There are also photoshoot opportunities to create a memory of your autumn fun. Tickets cost ÂŁ2.95 for adults and children, with pumpkins charged extra. You need to book your photoshoot separately.
