The Cottage Loaf, Thurstaston

The daffs are out, the lawn’s been cut and the white picket fence looks fresh and clean – can there be many more inviting places to have that first pint back, or a chilled glass of fizz with your mates? Clegg Arms, Gayton

It’s taking bookings now for its outside area. Open between 12noon-9pm all week, the Chester Road pub is exclusively serving food and drinks from its garden menu: ‘So you can come and enjoy a get-together outside! With so many missed moments over the past year, you must be looking forward to that pint or refreshing G&T.’

The Plasterer’s Arms, Hoylake

A great community pub in the heart of Hoylake. Of course it’s hoping for sunny weather now it’s back open for business, but just in case, it suggests you might want to take along your woollies and, just in case ‘duvets, long johns…’

The Red Fox, Thornton Hough

The marquee is up, and the tables are in – so it doesn’t even matter if there’s a spot of rain, there’s nothing to dampen the spirits… or the ale which has made it a Good Beer Guide winner! The Red Fox is home to a big and beautiful beer garden that’s hosted many a festival, and means there’s plenty of space for us all to enjoy again.

The Black Toad, Hoylake

There’s barrels of fun waiting in the outdoor area of the Black Toad micropub and bottle shop inn Hoylake, along with loads of belting beers. They’re not taking bookings, but want you to feel free to ring up when you’re heading down and they can save you a spot there and then. Can’t say fairer than that!

The Refreshment Rooms, Birkenhead

Overlooking the River Mersey, The Refreshment Rooms is one of those places where you can sit back and relax with a drink or great food while enjoying the stunning views. Now open again it’s first come, first served for the waterfront tables, with bookings needed for meals on the lawn and patio areas (0151 644 5893).

The Jug & Bottle, Heswall

The perfect pub in the heart of Heswall, The Jug and Bottle serves locally sourced, homemade meals and local real ales, and its outdoor area is perfect for catching the rays and keeping cool with an ice beer. It’s open from 12pm for outside food and drink service, and it will be serving its Alfresco Menu all day until 8pm.

The Tap, Birkenhead

Another one boasting some of the best views. Sitting on the side of the River Mersey, The Tap’s beer garden offers panoramic views from John Lennon Airport to the city and our fabulous waterfront. The flowers are blooming, the tables and seating have had a lick of paint – and now all it needs is you, so grab your mates for a drink and a great view.

The Farmers Arms, Frankby

The lawns are mowed, the tables are painted, the patio has been pressure washed….and after getting new menus printed, beers on order and finalising recipes, The Farmers Arms, says: “We have never been so ready. A huge summer ahead, we are super excited to welcome everybody back.” This Frankby pub has got a wonderful, large garden and there’s no need to book.

The Ferry, Wallasey

The Ferry has been a pub for more than 100 years and is a favourite with all those taking a stroll along the prom or enjoying a few hours on the beach at Egremont.  It’s back open from 10am, with the more brilliant views across the Mersey and city skyline, and with no booking system, it’s first come, first served.

The Pollards Inn, Willaston

The Pollards Inn people have been ‘busy bees’ while they’ve been closed and can’t wait to show everyone on April 16 when they reopen. The gorgeous garden area now has the addition of ‘The Barnhouse’, an outdoor sheltered area which includes heating and lighting, so summer nights can be enjoyed long after the temperatures drop and you can book online. If you’re popping in for a drink and a bite to eat from the new ‘Beer Garden Menu’ they’ve got plenty of tables in the garden available on a first come first served basis: ‘Bring the kids, bring the dog or just bring yourself, and enjoy that first proper drink you’ve been waiting for.’

Cheshire Cheese & Cheshire Gin Garden, Wallasey

The tables are set, the tubs have been filled with fabulous flowers and the Cheshire Cheese says it’s ‘all spruced up’ ready to welcome customers back into its Gin Garden on April 19.

For now its new opening hours will be Monday to Thursday, 4pm – 8pm; Friday, 4pm – 10pm; Saturday, 12 noon – 10pm and, Sunday, 12 noon – 8pm. They’re not taking any table bookings for the time being but working on a first come first serve basis! Ladies and gentlemen, form an orderly queue…
