Times are hard and friends are few, ta-ra to you ā¦
Itās the catchphrase thatās been seen more than 6 million times on Tik Tok in just over a week and itās made Philip Regan, the Queen of Scotty Road, into a viral sensation.
The 48-year-old has said it his whole life, but suddenly everyone knows it. His videos have had 20 million views over all social platforms.
āIt is unbelievable and the offers that have come in this past week, I could honestly only dream of them,ā he says. āBut I am a good-hearted person, if I can do anything for anyone then I will, and I believe in karma so Iām going to take whatever opportunities I get. Never look a gift horse in the face, thatās what I say.ā
Telling people exactly what he thinks has been the secret of Philipās phenomenal success.Ā
Although he never really expected it to make him famous anywhere outside of the pubs in Liverpool.
āI can be serious when I want to be but Iāve always been loud and stood out, even from a child. I was born and bred on Scotty Road, one of three kids, and my mother, whoāll be 73 in September, is a quiet woman.
āIām the loudest in the family but what you see with me is what you get,ā he says. āIāve been known as the Queen of Scotland Road since I was at school, itās not a character Iāve made up. I must have drunk in every pub around town and when I walk in they always say, āhere he is, the Queen of Scotty Roadā.
āIām a very straight kind of person in a lot of ways, Iād rather say something to peopleās faces and I donāt beat around the bush, but Iāve got no airs and graces and I never have had.ā
Philipās day job is as a cook (not a chef, he points out) and he works extra hours as a cleaner to make up his wages.
āBecause times are hard and friends are few,ā he laughs.
Philip only started his Tik Tok account eight weeks ago after a friend suggested it.

āHe said to me, āeveryone will love you, the way you carry onā so I thought Iād try it and just do what I do when I go out normally – Iād tell all my stories.
āIāve always been someone who tells stories, Iām quite well known for some that I canāt put on there, but now I get people asking me if theyāre real.
āOf course theyāre not real – theyāre all made up. I havenāt lifted a leg of lamb from Iceland and a prostituteās never come up to me. With the shoplifting one thatās had 6 million views, does anyone really think Iād buy that cheap vodka?!ā
The stories arenāt true, but the reaction theyāve caused definitely is. Philipās inbox has been full over the last week with people messaging him to make videos and do personal appearances. Heās even been down to London to film a show for the BBC.
āWhen I was at the BBC, there were six celebrity panellists on this show and all but one of them recognised me, I couldnāt get over it. They all took videos with me, I was so shocked. They said to me āwe thought you were fantasticā and I said to them ābelieve me, Iāll be working with every one of you soonā.ā
Sorry my obsession with this man will end soon, youāre just going to have to ride through it x pic.twitter.com/4gFs1ZPMmL

Even on the Tube, he was getting stopped for selfies with strangers. āAnd when I got off at Lime Street it was just photos, photos, photos. I said āaye, give us a chance to park me a**eā!ā
Actually, he says heās happy to have as many photos taken as people ask for.
āEveryone who comes up, I never once say no,ā Philip says, ābecause theyāre the ones who are giving me this chance. Iām a very humble person, Iām only a cleaner and a cook, and Iām just so grateful for all of it.
āIāve got all these followers now – children, teenagers, young adults, the older generation – and Iāve got the straight scene and the gay scene. Itās all ages and sexuality, and thatās whatās most important.ā
The Queen of Scotty Road isnāt planning to be changed by celebrity any time soon, but he does intend to enjoy his new-found fame.
āThis person that people are seeing now is just me, and if theyād seen me 20-odd years ago Iād have been the same. But whatās happened to me is amazing so Iām just going to see what comes of it.
āIāve always said ātimes are hard and friends are few, ta-ra to youā – now I get people shouting it at me in the street and out of their cars.ā
