15 things you can get up to this weekend in Liverpool (20-22 August)

We’re already counting down to the bank holiday, big news for everyone who’s lucky enough to get the full three days off, but in the meantime there’s still lots going on in Liverpool this weekend.

If you’re staycationing on the Costa del Mersey this summer, here are 15 suggestions for things you can get out and about to do …

Watch films on the rooftop at the FACT Cinema In The City 

Cinema in the City, presented by FACT, brings together the best in independent cinema and showcases emerging talent from local filmmakers.  On the rooftop garden of the Cotton Exchange, there’s food and drink from Maray too so if you love cinema, falafel and cocktails this is the one. Catch Rare Beasts and Stray this weekend.

Makers Market at the Royal Albert Dock

More than 50 stalls will be set up around the Albert Dock on Sunday with great local independent makers, bakers and creators all selling their products. There’ll be everything from artisan bread and locally-ground coffee to hand-crafted jewellery. It’s free and runs from 11am to 4pm and don’t forget the dock’s Great British Seaside celebration is still on as well.

The Drifters at the M&S Bank Arena auditorium

The absolutely legendary American RnB group The Drifters are back on tour in the UK performing all their classic hits from the last six decades and they’re stopping off for one night in Liverpool on Sunday. Prepare for a fantastic nostalgia fest with songs like Under The Boardwalk, Stand By Me, Saturday Night at the Movies and loads more.

The Further Adventures of Dr Dolittle at Sefton Park Palm House

This is a great one for the family – award-winning outdoor theatre company Illyria is putting on a fabulous new adaptation of The Further Adventures of Doctor Dolittle in the Palm House on Sunday. Spend the afternoon talking to the animals, from 3pm onwards – bring your own rugs/chairs to sit on and a picnic if you fancy.

Friday, 6pm to 10pm and there’s street food stalls to grab a bite between songs.
