We’ve officially had the first day of autumn and things are still looking pretty lovely, so make the most of a bit of bonus warm weather this weekend and give these 16 ideas a try in Liverpool…
Baltic Backyard Closing Party
Don’t let go of the summer without one last outdoor party to celebrate – get down to Baltic Backyard for its Closing Party with In Demand radio this Saturday. There’s a massive line-up of DJs with Lee Butler, Steve Cocky, Ian Longo, Sie Austin and Tommy Mc bringing the tunes all afternoon and evening, from 4pm to 11pm.
Smithdown Road Festival
Smithdown Road Festival, from this Friday to Sunday, is always a great way to support local venues and have yourself a brilliant time doing it. Look out for loads of events and live music at venues including The Handyman, Chamber 36, Leaf, The Tavern and The Brookhouse, plus discounts and specials at local shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. And there’s a Just Giving page if you fancy throwing a few quid in to help keep it going.
British Musical Fireworks Championship
Things will be going off with a bang at Victoria Park in Southport this weekend, Friday to Sunday, when some of the UK’s top pyro teams compete to be crowned champion. There’ll be incredible displays every evening, all synchronised to music, plus entertainment and food and drink stalls too.
Oktoberfest at Punch Tarmey’s
Dig out your lederhosen because Oktoberfest on Tour is coming to Punch Tarmey’s Courtyard at Cains Brewery Village this weekend. Expect live music from the UK’s best oompah bands, The Amazing Bavarian Stompers, Ukebox, games, traditional food and beer steins. It’s on Friday 5pm-11pm; Saturday 12pm-11pm and Sunday 12pm-11pm, no booking needed.
See Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Empire
Definitely one the kids will love, Beauty and the Beast is back at the Empire bringing all the magic of the Disney classic and well-loved songs like Be Our Guest and Tale as Old as Time. This latest stage version is absolutely gorgeous, and it’s on from this weekend until October 16.
Oktoberfest at Southport Market
More oompah-ing, because you can never have too much, this time over at Southport Market. They’ll be serving Bavarian beer Maxlrainer Leo Weisse & Schloss Gold by the pint and stein until Sunday and the Bavarian Stompers will be ramping up the party atmosphere on Sunday from 2pm and 4pm.
Craft + Flea at Invisible Wind Factory
If you love a little wander around stalls spotting and buying some great unique stuff then get down to IWF on Regent Road this Saturday because Craft + Flea is there from 11am to 5pm bringing together some really talented independent makers, designers, producers and collectors. The North West Wedding Show
Now couples can start properly planning a bigger big day again, you might be in need of extra inspiration so head to the Exhibition Centre Liverpool where the North West Wedding Show is on Saturday and Sunday. Brides and grooms-to-be can scope out, try and buy everything wedding-related with over 150 local, national and international professional wedding companies all under one roof.
Anthony Joshua Fight Night at Camp and Furnace
There’s a big weekend of live sport screenings at Camp & Furnace this weekend, kicking off with the Man City game and the Reds taking on Brentford before it’s all about the big fight – Anthony Joshua versus Oleksandr Usyk from 8pm. Free entry, great beer and an incredible atmosphere guaranteed.
Breakfast at the new Lovelocks Cafe on Haymarket
Weekends should definitely be about treating yourself to a lie-in and a breakfast cooked by someone else so now’s the perfect time to check out the menu at the new Lovelocks Café. You don’t need to be abroad to get out on the water and have some fun because Wild Shore’s got that covered right here, down at the Albert Dock. There’s something for everyone, depending on how adventurous you’re feeling, so you could take a leisurely pedalo to see the dockside sights or test out your balance and give paddle boarding a go.
See the new Tate Liverpool exhibition – Emily Speed: Flatland
Fancy a bit of culture this weekend? If so then take a trip down to the Albert Dock and to Tate Liverpool where there’s a new exhibition opening on Saturday. Emily Speed’s work looks at how people and buildings shape each other and she incorporates lots of different media including sculpture, drawing, performance and film.
Try the new Gym+Coffee at Liverpool ONE
Anyone who’s into fitness and likes looking good while they work out should check out the new Gym+Coffee store which has just opened in Liverpool ONE. There’s a great choice of gym clothing and accessories, loads of people on hand to give advice and you could maybe grab a flat white too.
Dinner and cocktails at Bouchon
French bistro Bouchon, from the team behind Bacaro and Salt House, has been a fantastic addition to Liverpool since it opened this summer so it’s definitely worth a visit. There’s an a la carte of French classics like Ox cheek bourguignon, and if you go on Saturday lunchtimes you can take advantage of the Prix Fixe menu. Add on a spritz cocktail because it’s the weekend.
