Sam Ryder to chat with The Guide Liverpool at a special British Music Experience event, and you can be there
2 years ago
The Guide Liverpool’s Jay Hynd will host a special event with Sam Ryder at the BME this weekend.
UK Eurovision star Sam Ryder will be stepping back into the spotlight in Liverpool ahead of this year’s event coming to the city.
Sam memorably secured second place behind Ukraine in the 2022 contest, which led to Liverpool being awarded hosting duties on behalf of the winners.
His entry, Space Man, became a huge global hit and was followed by his debut studio album There’s Nothing But Space Man! which made it to number one in the UK charts.
With the countdown to Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool now well and truly on, Sam is arriving early to reveal more about his life and career in a special Q&A event at the British Music Experience.
Before his sold-out gig at the 02 Academy, he’ll be in the hot seat at the BME in Cunard Building chatting to The Guide’s own Jay Hynd about his mammoth rise to fame, his Eurovision success, and of course about that famous suit he wore during the final.
The ticketed event coincides with the arrival of Sam’s Eurovision outfit – the black denim jewel-encrusted jumpsuit that he wore for his vote-grabbing Space Man performance in Turin – which is now on display as part of BME’s collection of iconic music costumes and memorabilia.Â
After starting his incredible rise to fame creating TikTok videos during lockdown, Sam won a place in Eurovision fans’ hearts last May when he so nearly took us into first place after years of nul points and ending up in the bottom half of the Eurovision scoreboard.
He’s not yet confirmed exactly what he’ll be doing when the contest kicks off with the semi-finals on May 9 and 11 but he’s made no secret of the fact he wants to be here.
Sam’s described Liverpool as “such an amazing city”, which has “given us the bedrock of music as we know it” so we already know we’re going to get on!
Jay says he’s looking forward to helping the audience get to know Sam better, relive and get some inside gossip on that amazing night in Italy – and hopefully find out a bit more about his plans for this year’s contest.
“I cannot wait to speak to Sam about that iconic Eurovision performance, and the journey that led him there,” he adds. “He is, of course, the reason why the city gets to host the contest this year so we’ll be celebrating his success and finding out why we should be so excited about May in Liverpool.”
