Merseyside Police is shining a spotlight on the work of its neighbourhood policing teams as part of Neighbourhood Policing Week, a national campaign recognising the role local officers play in tackling crime, supporting communities and keeping people safe.

Running from 15 to 21 June, the week celebrates the work carried out by neighbourhood officers, Police Community Support Officers and local policing teams across the region.

Merseyside Police says recent investment has strengthened its commitment to visible and accessible neighbourhood policing, with more officers now working directly within the communities they serve.

Key developments include:

  • 67 additional officers dedicated to neighbourhood policing
  • A new neighbourhood policing hub in Fazakerley
  • A second neighbourhood hub in Newton le Willows

Assistant Chief Constable Alex Goss said local knowledge remains one of the force’s most valuable tools, he said: “Nobody knows our local communities better than our neighbourhood teams. We know people want to see more officers in their neighbourhoods and understand how local police are tackling crime and anti social behaviour.

“Our recent restructure means more officers are now present in the communities they serve, focusing on the issues that matter most to residents.”

To mark the week, Merseyside Police has highlighted examples of neighbourhood officers making a difference across the region.

In Liverpool, a neighbourhood officer helped support a vulnerable family facing significant hardship after concerns emerged during a routine intervention.

Officers worked with partner organisations to secure food support, youth services and additional opportunities for the family’s children.

In Sefton, information gathered by a Police Community Support Officer helped identify suspected drug related activity, leading to a coordinated operation involving local policing teams.

The investigation resulted in arrests and the seizure of drugs, cash and equipment linked to suspected drug supply.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside, Emily Spurrell, said: “Neighbourhood Policing Week is an important opportunity to recognise the outstanding work of local officers and staff who are at the heart of keeping our communities safe.

“I know how important it is for residents to see a visible police presence they can trust. By focusing on prevention, early intervention and strong community relationships, Merseyside Police is helping to build safer neighbourhoods right across our region.”

Residents can keep up to date with local policing activity through Merseyside Police social media channels and the force’s online “Your Area” service, which provides information on local officers, crime statistics and ongoing policing activity in communities across the region.

Anyone with information about crime or anti social behaviour is encouraged to contact Merseyside Police or report anonymously through Crimestoppers.
