Liverpool City Council data-driven initiative is set to combat health inequalities.

The Public Health team at Liverpool City Council has secured £5M of national funding to deliver a data-led approach to tackling inequalities.

This funding, facilitated by the Department of Health and Social Care through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), aims to pioneer a data-centric approach in addressing societal inequalities.

This substantial investment will be channeled into the creation of a groundbreaking Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC).

Liverpool stands among the eleven chosen areas set to benefit from this initiative. The funding will fuel comprehensive research endeavors aimed at comprehensively understanding and implementing strategic interventions to combat health disparities and broader deprivation issues.

The focus areas encompass aspects such as neighborhood dynamics, housing, leisure, and various other social determinants.

The HDRCs aspire to act as catalysts for economic growth and rejuvenation, particularly in some of the nation’s most underserved areas. By enhancing public health, these collaborations aim to alleviate the strain on NHS services, contributing significantly to the overarching goal of reducing health inequalities across the region.

Liverpool City Council is poised to spearhead this transformative initiative, supported by esteemed institutions such as the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moore’s University, Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services, Healthwatch Liverpool, and representatives from the business sector. Leveraging their expertise and resources, these collaborative efforts are primed to drive impactful research outcomes.

The comprehensive program is set to launch in 2024.
