Six things to do this Christmas in New Brighton

The Christmas season is here and there is so much to see and do across the region.

From a trip to the Panto, visiting Santa and gorgeous winter walks, there’s some fantastic things to do this Christmas in New Brighton but everything needs to have a festive twist!

Check out these six things you can do this December:

Have fun at the Panto with Jack and the Beanstalk at the Floral Pavilion

With incredible 3D special effects, Jack and the Beanstalk opens on Saturday 9th December bring all the panto fun to Wirral.

This brilliant show stars Emmerdale and Dancing on Ice star Hayley Tamaddon as The Vegetable Fairy and CBeebies Joseph Elliot as Fleshcreep, not forgetting Oliver Brooks as the unmissable Dame Trott.

On their farm in Merrydale hero Jack, his mother Dame Trot, and his brother Simon haven’t a bean to their name. Their friendly cow Daisy has gone dry, and worse still the village is being destroyed by an evil giant. His wicked henchman Fleshcreep steals the magic harp of Merrydale and kidnaps the beautiful Princess. Can Jack save the day, retrieve the harp and win the heart of the Princess?

This production is full of sparkling sets, lavish costumes, amazing song and dance numbers, giggles galore and bags of audience participation.

Visit Santa at Fort Perch Rock

This new festive experience brings the magic of Christmas to New Brighton with the Fort setting transformed into a walkthrough winter wonderland where you can meet seasonal characters such as The Grinch and Santa’s elves as well as Father Christmas himself making an appearance.

Each child ticket also includes a visit to see Santa and they will also receive a gift.

Please be careful walking around this 200-year-old Fort. Children must not be left unaccompanied, and we’d advise you wrap up against the cold and wear sensible shoes as part of the Fort is outdoors.

Santa’s Castle is at Fort Perch Rock at weekends until Sunday 24th December.

Bubbles World of Play

The kids can enjoy hours of fun whatever the weather at this huge and innovative indoor place area.

Designed for children aged up to 11, they are encouraged to learn and explore more than 30 different countries and zones, from the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the Northern Lights, stopping for fun in India, Dinoland, Italy and many other ‘countries’ along the way.

While the kids play, you can enjoy a chill out in the seating areas enjoying food and drink from the kitchen.

Babies and toddlers are also well catered for with a large sensory area and baby changing facilities on both floors as well as plenty of high chairs.

There are themed party booths for special occasions too.

You will find Bubbles World of Play in Marine Point. Tickets prices range from £1.50 for babies up to six months (member price) through to £8.50 for children aged one-11.

View the local street art

The street art of New Brighton has become a popular tourist attraction in recent years with the Victoria Road quarter becoming a hub of creativity.

Some of the art tells a local story like SMUG’s portrait of Mike Jones which celebrates 40 years with the RNLI. The days of shipwrecks and smugglers are remembered by the Nomad Clad while Brez pays tribute to Peggy Gadsby, who dived for pennies off New Brighton pier.

The street art is part of a wider regeneration of the area from Rockpoint Leisure and you can also enjoy a browse round Rockpoint Records and enjoy a coffee at the same time. Keep an eye on their Facebook for intimate gigs and other events too.

Learn some local history at New Brighton Heritage and Information Centre

Delve into the fascinating past of New Brighton and learn more about how the Wirral town became a leading attraction in the northwest for the wealthy and working classes alike, with a tower and ballroom bigger and better than Blackpool’s.

There are guided walks on selected days, and you can browse memorabilia and pictures, and learn from local experts from the area.

The New Brighton Heritage and Information Centre is located in Victoria Road and opening times vary throughout the year so check the website or Facebook page for up to date information or call 0151 639 1674.

Grab a bit to eat at Driftwood café

Whether you’ve enjoyed a brisk winter walk, a bit of Christmas shopping, or a visit to Santa, put this cute café on your list for all your breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea requirements.
