If your 2024 resolution is to get fit or be more healthy then Liverpool University Hospitals Charity has several ways help you to achieve your goal – and give back to the local community at the same time.
The charity has five guaranteed places on the famous Great North Run on 8 September. The half marathon runs from Newcastle to South Shields and you need to raise a minimum of ÂŁ250 to secure your place. The ballot to enter the race closes on 21 January.
The 25 mile walk across Hadrian’s Wall in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Northumberland National Park is in July. The trek travels over tough terrain in three days in [dates] and requires a minimum sponsorship of £600.
In September you could conquer the highest three peaks of the Yorkshire Dale in a single day. Get your steps in to tackle the summits of Pen-y-Ghent (694m/2,276 ft), Whernside (736m/2,415 ft) and Ingleborough (723m/2,372 ft) all in one circular route starting and ending in Horton-in-Ribblesdale.
Abi Smith, head of fundraising at Liverpool University Hospitals Charity explains:
“It’s so easy to make a resolution at the start of the year and after a few weeks it becomes a distant memory. By signing up to one of our charity challenges, you’ll have a real goal to work towards to help with doing more walking, getting fit or training for a couch to 5k.
“You’ll also be helping to fund the extras that are outside the scope of the NHS budget, supporting patients and their families that visit one of our three hospitals. We fund vital equipment, research and improvements to the environment and care people receive.”
