Taking place on Sunday 5 July 2026, the event offers five carefully curated routes ranging from five to 100 miles, giving participants the freedom to take on the challenge at their own pace, whether they are taking to the saddle for the first time or are seasoned cyclists.

Among this year’s eager participants is North West Cancer Research-funded PhD Researcher at the University of Liverpool, Owen McGreevy, who will be cycling the 50-mile route.

This will be Owen’s first time taking on the challenge of LCL, and his mum and dad will be joining him on the ride.

He said: “I was inspired to take part because I am very grateful for the work North West Cancer Research does across the region. They fund important cancer research, but they also support the training of young researchers like me.

“I have always wanted to be a scientist, and my PhD has given me the opportunity to work on research that could help improve our understanding of cancer.

“Cycling has always been something I have done with my family, especially when I was younger, so taking part in the Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride with my mum and dad feels really special. It is both a personal challenge and a way to support a charity that has had a big impact on my life and career.

“Like many people, my family and I have been affected by cancer, so being able to contribute to cancer research through my work is something that means a lot to me. Raising money for North West Cancer Research feels like a way of giving back, but also a way of helping to support future research, give other young scientists the same opportunities that I have had, and fund work that can help us better understand cancer, improve care, and move towards better treatments for patients.”

This year’s event is sponsored by national retailer Home Bargains, international food and drink company Princes, and Chester-based solicitors, Oliver & Co.

As a regional charity, North West Cancer Research is dedicated to funding research that will tackle the cause, improve care, and, ultimately, find the cures for cancer.

Alastair Richards, CEO at North West Cancer Research, said:

“The Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride has firmly re-established itself as one of the region’s most beloved cycling events, and the enthusiasm we continue to see from riders of all abilities is a testament to just how much it was missed.

“We’re already seeing fantastic interest in this year’s ride and we’re looking forward to welcoming back familiar faces, as well as those who will be saddling up for the very first time.

“In order to achieve our goal of creating a cancer-free future, we need to continue funding innovative research and education across our region, and the LCL Bike Ride plays a vital role in making that possible.”
