Big-hearted bikers support local charities and honour famous Easter fundraisers in Wirral Egg Run Tribute Ride Out this Sunday

More than 2,000 motorcyclists will be riding from New Brighton to Clatterbridge this Sunday for the Wirral Egg Run Tribute Ride Out 2024.

The event’s organised in celebration of the original Wirral Egg Run which was cancelled in 2013.

And Steve Kelly, one of the organisers from Peninsular Motorcyles in Birkenhead, says:

“We are doing the Ride Out to honour members of the Empress Motor Cycle Club in New Brighton who started the original event and for everyone who made the Egg Run one of the biggest, if not the biggest, in Europe.

“We want to pay tribute to every rider who ever took part in this fantastic event and keep the Wirral Egg Run name and spirit alive.”

The Wirral Egg Run Tribute Ride Out 2024 will take place on Sunday, March 17, with riders meeting at The Dips on Coastal Drive, New Brighton, and setting off at 11am.

It will follow the traditional Egg Run route travelling 20 miles through Wallasey Village, Moreton Cross, Moreton, Hoylake, West Kirby, Caldy, Heswall and Clatterbridge, before heading on to Claremont Farm for music, food, and drink.

Donation points will be available at The Dips to raise money for Claire House Children’s Hospice, North West Air Ambulance, and Merseyside and Cheshire Blood Bikes, and people can donate cash, pyjamas, Easter eggs and toys for children across the region there, to cyclists along the two-hour route, or at Claremont Farm in Bebington.

It was Steve, who had taken part in the Egg Run with friends for years, who started the Tribute after the original charity committee disbanded and closed it down.

Steve’s wife and fellow organiser Karla said:

“The first one he did was 2014 and it just carried on from there. The idea was to raise money for the three charities, but we also collect the eggs, toys and PJs which are then given to Claire House as well as other organisations, like youth groups, school, homes, and food banks.

“We have lots of help from organisations and volunteers without whose support we wouldn’t be able to keep it going.”

“There are many Easter Egg Runs across the country and they mark the start of the riding season.

“We have riders attending from all over the UK, some in fancy-dress, and the atmosphere is amazing. It’s like a big family reunion because everyone knows someone and there’s plenty of banter and hugs.

“Bikers sometimes get a bad rap but they have the biggest heart, especially when it comes to kids.”
