Liz McClarnon has made friendship bracelets to support Zoe's Place

Atomic Kitten’s Liz McClarnon has been getting creative to support Zoe’s Place baby hospice fundraising.

Liz wanted to do something to join in the efforts to help save Zoe’s Place from closure and decided to make friendship bracelets to sell on eBay.

Using her craft hobby to support the cause, she’s handmade a limited edition of 50 of the bracelets, each with a charm of a tiny pair of feet.

The singer says she felt strongly about playing her part in what has been a huge response from supporters since the hospice revealed it was under threat.

Liz explains:

“One of my best friends is having a baby shower in Liverpool soon and I wanted to do something personal for it so I’d been making little favours and one of them was a friendship bracelet.

“I’d already started making pink ones with pink charms on for that when I heard the news about Zoe’s Place.

“I’m not in Liverpool now, and I couldn’t get to a couple of the shows people are putting on because I already had things committed for those dates, so I said to my husband ‘I need to think of something else to do.’

“Then I was making the bracelets for the baby shower and my mum said, ‘why don’t you do those for Zoe’s Place?’

“That was it, I loved the idea, so a friend of mine helped me set up an eBay site and do a seven-day auction, and I sat there for two days making them. It was the best thing I could think of to do online because I couldn’t physically be there to get involved in things.”

Liz says she felt shocked, like everyone in the city, by the thought of losing Zoe’s Place.

“People talk about six degrees of separation but there’s not even that when it comes to Zoe’s Place because most people know someone, or their friend knows someone, or it’s them, who’s had some connection.

“If anyone has a word to say about anyone or anything in the city, we’ll all jump and defend it, and if anyone tries to take something away from us we’ll all jump and defend it, that’s Liverpool. Even if it doesn’t directly affect you, Scousers will say ‘no, that’s ours,’ and I think that’s what has happened with Zoe’s Place.

“Everyone has just been brilliant about it and given and done what they can.

“Life is tough at the moment for people and money is tight, but if everyone’s doing a little bit where they can it always adds up.

“I know there will be lots of people donating directly to the fund, but this is something tangible you can have to keep in return for a donation.”
