A spectacular fire show is coming to the Bombed Out Church ahead of Bonfire Night

A breathtaking spectacle of fire and music is coming to the Bombed Out Church to celebrate Bonfire Night this year.

Ignite the Night is the Bombed Out Church’s biggest flame-filled event yet, with large-scale fire and light performances plus live drumming on the evening of Sunday November 3. Happening within the Bombed Out Church gardens, with the church as a stunning backdrop, the night has been created in collaboration with Liverpool-based Bring the Fire project who’ve been behind some incredible shows in the city.

Family-friendly performances will start at 6.15pm and build up to an explosive choreographed finale between 7.45pm and 8.15pm.

To get everyone in the Bonfire Night mood, there’ll be traditional treats like toffee apples and sparklers, and the garden bar will be open for soft drinks and alcoholic ones including mulled wine as well as hot drinks and boozy hot chocs. 

Sam Raymond at the Bombed Out Church says it promises to be fantastically fiery entertainment for all ages:

“Ignite the Night has been orchestrated by Bring the Fire project, who perform a lot in Liverpool and around the UK, and are probably best known here for the part they play in the Lunar New Year celebrations commissioned by Culture Liverpool.

“Although it’s quite a niche art, fire performance is one people really love engaging with as spectators and participants, and is it really is quite a spectacle.

“The last couple of years we’ve held an event called Sparks and Scarves which was similar in that we invited families to come down and join in something in the open air around the time of Bonfire Night.

“With those we had hot drinks, sparklers and one or two performers doing some fire spinning, but this time we’ve upped the ante in terms of the scale of the performance. We’ll have a whole troupe representing fire performers and light dancers in the city so there’ll be a lot more to see.”

Ignite the Night will have two Drums & Fire shows, at 6.15pm and 7pm, featuring music from up and coming drummers Renegade Snares. At 6.30pm and 7.15pm there’ll be 15-minute Fire Space – The Flow Project performances showcasing Bring The Fire’s Fire Jams and Fire Spaces alongside members of the local fire spinning community.

Then from 7.45pm to 8.15pm it’s the big finale when Bring The Fire Project present their newest choreographed production with six acts from six fire performers drawing inspiration from 90s Raves to Bagpipe Ceilidh, Spanish Tango to Mongolian Rock and Kung Fu Fighting!

It’s a non-ticketed standing event, although there will be reserved areas for anyone who has accessibility requirements.

“This is a family-friendly organised display celebrating Bonfire Night which people can come along to and watch safely,” adds Sam. “There’s a real atmosphere and community spirit behind it and the great thing about fire dancing is everyone, young kids especially, is totally mesmerised by it. 

“Ignite the Night is free to see but we’re asking people to make a suggested donation of £3 if they’re able because it helps fund the event so people can come and enjoy the space, and any additional funds go to our ongoing efforts here.”
