Its amazing success mirrors that of the four lads who shook the world.
The Beatles Story opened in May 1990 and has since tripled in size with hundreds of thousands of visitors now walking through its doors every year.
The immersive experience in the Britannia Pavilion at the Royal Albert Dock has become the biggest Beatles exhibition in the world – so it’s little wonder that Liverpool BID Company has named it their Business of the Month for November.
Mary Chadwick, general manager at The Beatles Story, said:
“We are incredibly proud to be recognised as Liverpool BID Company’s Business of the Month for November.
“At The Beatles Story, our mission is to offer an immersive experience that celebrates and enhances the lasting legacy of The Beatles, while also contributing to the wider Liverpool City Region visitor economy.
“Through our immersive exhibition, ancillaries, digital channels and educational programmes, we’re committed to preserving this legacy for future generations, ensuring that visitors of all ages continue to connect with the story of the Fab Four in a meaningful way.”
And here are more reasons why it was given the city accolade – and why it’s Something Liverpool is so proud of too.
Immersive, engaging, interactive
Visitors can embark on a journey through the life and times of The Beatles, and experience Beatlemania first hand, the sights and the sounds. They can get involved in everything from the music they created to the fashions they wore. It’s got its own NEMS Record Shop along with recreations of other key locations in the band’s career including Hamburg, The Cavern Club, and Abbey Road Studios, and in the Discovery Zone, kids can dress up in outfits from the 60s, learn how music was played, and even take to the stage and sing a Beatles song.
It’s got original and impressive memorabilia
Fans can see fascinating pieces of original and authentic memorabilia from George Harrison’s first guitar to John Lennon’s last piano which was transported from Record Plant Studios in New York where John had been rehearsing on the day he was sadly shot. Other star exhibits include Ringo’s drum kit, John’s glasses, and more.
Supporting the city’s economy
The Beatles Story is well established as an immersive must-see visitor experience, protecting and enhancing the Beatles’ brand and sustaining its legacy in the birthplace of The Beatles for future generations. It’s also one that supports the wider Liverpool City Region visitor economy, bringing in tourists and investment annually.
Sustainability initiative
The Beatles Story is dedicated to improving the sustainability of its business and guiding it into a greener future. It actively seeks to reduce waste and recycle where it can, and to preserve natural resources. It further aims to be carbon neutral by 2040, and its hard work and commitment to becoming a greener attraction have already earned it a bronze award from Green Tourism.
Education department
The Beatles Story has developed learning resources to create a fun and educational experience for everyone, and its commitment to life-long learning ensures every child has a valuable experience, whatever their age or ability. It caters to all key stages and SEND groups, and with curriculum-led resources it educates on local history as well as further enhancing the legacy of The Beatles.
60 Years of A Hard Day’s Night Exhibition
A Hard Day’s Night was the 1964 musical comedy film starring The Beatles which captured the band’s hectic lifestyle as they navigated a day of chaotic misadventures and the rise of Beatlemania, all set to a soundtrack of their iconic songs. The album was released in the UK on July 10, 1964, and was the first Beatles album to consist of entirely original material. To commemorate six decades since, a new exhibition invites visitors to embrace A Hard Day’s Night and become involved in the story, with recreations of key scenes and locations from the movie, clips from the film, memorabilia, and more.
