We love a bit of Bublé for the festive season, and Mariah’s guaranteed to get us feeling merry – but there’s nothing like a carol to get us really in the mood for Christmas.

You can join in your favourites from Away in a Manger to O Little Town of Bethlehem at carol concerts in Liverpool this year, and here’s a few you can look forward to…

A Celebration of Christmas – Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King

A Celebration of Christmas returns with a night of music guaranteed to get you into the festive spirit, when you can join the Metropolitan Cathedral Choir and some very special guests for a magical event for all the family. Sing along to carols and listen to traditional readings.

Queer Carol Service with the Liverpool Rainbow Choir – St Bride’s Church, Liverpool

Sunday, December 15 at 6.30pm

The Open Table Liverpool Orchestra and the Liverpool Rainbow Chorus will perform loads of your favourite carols with inspiring traditional and contemporary readings. Then after the service you’re invited to a simple meal of soup, bread, mulled wine and mince pies.

Cheshire and Merseyside NHS Choir presents its annual NHS Carol Concert at Liverpool Cathedral.

In this extra special carol concert you can join all areas of the NHS as they come together to celebrate and give thanks for the service they provide, and start the festive season with a mix of carols and seasonal readings.

Kick off the festivities with an uplifting musical Christmas experience with gospel choirs including Wayne Ellington & Manchester Inspirational Voices, Love & Joy Gospel Choir, Lighthouse Choir, Hayli Kincade & Wavertree Gospel Choir, BIMM Birmingham Gospel Choir, and more.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the postponed Liverpool Gospel Festival, with new dates due to be announced soon.

Raymond Gubbay presents Candlelit Carols at the Phil and you can expect all those wonderful songs from Hark the Herald Angels Sing to O Come, all ye Faithful, as well as classics like Cullen’s Joy to the World and the Christmas Sequence from Messiah by Handel.

Steven Devine is conducting the Mozart Festival Orchestra, and Harriet Eyley is the soprano who will be joined by the Coro Spezzato​ Choir.

Festival Carol Service and La Nativité du Seigneur – Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King

Sunday, December 22 at 5pm

Chance to join the cathedral choir and clergy for a mix of seasonal music, readings and congregational carols, before a performance of Oliver Messiaen’s monumental organ work, La Nativité du Seigneur, by cathedral organist, Richard Lea.

In composing the nine meditations, Messiaen was inspired by the nativity story, mountains, birdsong, and stained-glass windows.

The cathedral invites you to enjoy the magic of Christmas on Christmas Eve, and join them for an uplifting service filled with beautiful Christmas music performed by the cathedral choir.

They say the special service is the chance to ‘embrace the spirit of Christmas and enjoy a peaceful, festive evening in the stunning surroundings of Liverpool Cathedral’.
