Amur tigers, native to Eastern Russia, remain one of the world’s most endangered big cats, with only around 450 left in the wild. While their population has shown some recovery, they still face threats from poaching, habitat loss, and declining prey numbers.
Makari, Knowsley Safari’s resident Amur tiger, plays a crucial role in the European Breeding Programme, which works to protect the species. The safari also partners with WildCats Conservation Alliance, helping fund vital conservation efforts in the wild.
Knowsley Safari’s half-term tiger celebration runs from 15 – 23 February, and with free kids’ tickets for every paying adult, it’s the perfect time to experience the wonders of the wild.
