Liverpool’s grooviest vinyl DJ night is spreading the love for Valentine’s Day

Liverpool’s grooviest vinyl DJ night is back – and it’s all about spreading the love this Valentine’s Day.
The Compact Pussycats are inviting vintage and vinyl fans to attend ‘Cupid’s Club’ for a ‘60s Love-In at the Kazimier Garden’s Kabin.
And it’s your cue to get dressed up in all your best gear and get ready to dance the night away.
“If you’ve never been to a Compact Pussycat night before, it is a gorgeous safe space in the heart of Liverpool, full of colourful like-minded cats who all share a love for vintage,” says one of the felines, Caitlin Hare.
“We’d love people to come and be part of our club and have an amazing time!”
Cupid’s Club is the sixth vinyl DJ night organised by The Compact Pussycats, aka The Octopus Garden vintage store owner Caitlin, and DJs Gia Goulding and Alex Mason.
Caitlin says: “The Compact Pussycats are three friends from Liverpool who couldn’t believe there wasn’t a ‘60s vinyl night in, of all places, Liverpool, which is so huge for its music from the period, psychedelia, and all of that.
“So because we have a shared passion for it we thought, shall we just try one?
“The first vinyl night was in 2023 and it was really successful. There were people there we hadn’t met before, but also people we sort of knew through Instagram so it was like bringing an existing community together in a space where they could finally meet each other, and it wasn’t weird.
“We’ve combined our love of ‘60s vinyl, vintage clothes, and bringing people together, into this night that we aim to do about three to four times a year.
“We are all creatives where no two days are the same. I trade at festivals in summer so that’s a no go, Alex is in a band so she tours sometimes as well, so we do them whenever we can which is lovely because they stay special, and people look forward to them.
“People come from all over the country which is great because they ask us which hotels to stay in, they ask for restaurant recommendations … so it’s all supportive and great for the city too.”
Caitlin adds: “Because what we do is quite kitsch, Cupid’s Club and Valentine’s Day worked really well for a theme because of all the bubblegum pop and people’s favourite psych songs (think The Archies, The Lemon Pipers, The Turtles, etc.).
“There’s all of that really cute stuff that came out Liverpool in the 1960s, the Kirkbys and The Liverpool Five, and things like that.
“We love it. Me, Gia and Alex met on Instagram where we used to share our vintage outfits and what we were doing, and the 60s – and the 70s – was such an amazing time for self-expression and the music that came out of that, and colourful and expressive style.
“It was a turning point, and with so many fragmented counter cultures there was so much variety in music and fashion. It was exciting, especially in Liverpool.
“Our night is a vinyl night because we want it to be authentic.”
There’ll be Valentine’s goody bags for the first 25 people and a prize for the best-dressed – and Caitlin will be playing Cupid: “There’ll be a private box where you can write love letters that I’ll deliver to people.
“It’s all about spreading the love.
“We’ve had people who’s become friends on our vinyl nights – and we’ve even had a couple who met and have since become engaged.
“But whether you’re with your Sweet Pea this Valentine’s Day or you’re looking for some Sugar Sugar, we’ve Got You Babe.”
