Arriva Merseyside is recognised for making safety a top priority for drivers and passengers

Arriva Merseyside has been recognised on the national stage for its dedication to safety.

Arriva Merseyside picked up a commendation at the Safety and Health Excellence Awards in the Best Driver Risk Management category. The award shines a light on the major improvements made by the team to keep both drivers and passengers safer on the roads right across Merseyside.

Over the past year, Arriva has stepped up its approach to safety with a mix of smarter training, tech upgrades and a more people-first approach at its depots. The results speak for themselves—driver incidents dropped by nearly 7% in 2024, with the Green Lane depot achieving an impressive 21% reduction. Over in Bootle, changes to lighting and working practices also led to a big fall in workplace collisions.

New driver support measures have been key to these improvements. That includes more refresher training for existing staff, better shift planning to avoid fatigue, and giving new drivers more time behind the wheel during training. On top of that, real-time feedback, mentoring, and new tech have helped drivers feel more confident and more prepared on the road.

Staff are reporting a greater sense of safety at work, with fewer complaints, fewer insurance claims, and a more positive atmosphere all round.
