Commit an Act of Kindness for Mandela Day in Liverpool this July
3 days ago

People and businesses across Liverpool are being asked to show a little extra kindness this summer as Mandela8 and Liverpool BID Company join forces for Mandela Day.
Every year, Nelson Mandela International Day invites people to step up, make a difference and carry on the legacy of a man who changed the world. The theme for this year’s day on Friday 18 July is ‘Kindness, Communities, Change’ – and everyone’s being encouraged to do something good for someone else or for their community.
Mandela8’s Acts of Kindness campaign, which used to be called My 67 Minutes, is all about giving a bit of time back – whether that’s helping a neighbour, volunteering or just doing something thoughtful for someone else.
Liverpool BID has lined up a day of activities that you can get involved in – from getting your hands dirty to giving your mind a moment of calm.
On the day, volunteers can help brighten up some of the unloved patches of the Commercial District with a planting session. Over at Tempest on Tithebarn Street there’ll be free wellness sessions running from 8am to 3pm with YinYan Wellbeing CIC, including morning yoga, calming Qi Gong and Tai Chi, a Loving Kindness meditation, clay modelling and even a ukulele crash course for anyone fancying a musical break.
There’ll also be a lunchtime litter pick setting off from St Paul’s Square and a citizenship talk inspired by Mandela’s message about how we can all play our part in making positive changes.
Mandela8 will be leading a special guided walk to mark the day too, giving people the chance to come together and reflect on what Mandela’s legacy means today.
Bill Addy, CEO of Liverpool BID Company, said: “Everyone can help make a difference in their community with just one Act of Kindness. For us at Liverpool BID, Mandela Day is always inspiring. It brings people together and reminds us how important it is to look after the city and each other.”
Sonia Bassey, Chair of Mandela8, added: “It’s fantastic to keep working with Bill and the BID team to celebrate Mandela Day in Liverpool. Kindness and community spirit mean so much, and every year we’re blown away by the amazing ways businesses and people get involved.”
If you or your business want to be part of it, you can sign up to any of the events or add your own Act of Kindness online.
